Medford Shocks The World!
When all was said and done, the Medford
wrestling team was on top. Medford, unranked thus far this year, held off
highly regarded Triton and Kenyon Wanamingo, 4th ranked LeCenter and 10th
ranked Kasson Mantorville. Final results were:

103# Brent Reinhard--2nd
Brent wrestled well on his way to the finals but was
overpowered there in a 7-4 loss to Jed Deno of Kasson.
For Brent this was only his first loss against 9 wins.
112# Andy Cowell--2nd
Andy worked his way to the finals but was beaten by
John Roeder of Kasson in a closely contested match.
Andy moved his record to 9-1.
119# Mitch Kuhlman--1st
Mitch overwhelmed the field in winning the
championship, pinning 1998 state entrant Jake Smith
of Kasson in the finals.
125# Adam Miller--DNP
Adam was wrestling in his first match of the year.
130# Blaine Kuhlman--1st
Blaine wrestled extremely well in winning the
championship. The 130# class was the toughest weight
in the tournament with 3 state entrants. Blaine was
awarded outstanding wrestle and earned it be
defeating 1998 state entrant Jesse Stevenson of
Kasson 7-2 in the semi-finals and controlling Ezra
Blair 1997 & 1998 state entrant 4-2 in the finals.
135# Jeremy Glende--3rd
Jeremy Glende wrestled back to 3rd place after being
beaten by Nathen Bendorf of Triton, a wrestler Jeremy
beat earlier in the year.
140# Shawn Barta--5th
Shawn wrestled with heart in his fifth place match
coming up with a much needed pin. Shawn is steadily
improving as the year progresses.
145# Steve Maas--5th
Steve wrestled back to the fifth place match and
produced a much needed pin. Steve has shown spurts of
consistent wrestling.
152# Cary Liebig--5th
Cary came back from an early loss to provide another
needed pin in his fifth place match.
160# Jay DeCoux--4th
Jay wrestled well to a fourth place finish in a very
tough weight class. Nobody wrestles with more heart
than Jay. In his fourth place match Jay showed why he
will be a champion in the future.
171# Kevin DeCoux--1st
Kevin wrestling in the finals and in the Most Pivotal
match of the tournament, showed poise, and
determination in beating Tritons Brian Garness,
who had beaten Kevin earlier in the season. Kevin
wrestled back from a 2-0 deficit to take the match
into overtime and get the win 6-4.
189# Aaron Schroht--4th
Aaron wrestled well to place fourth. Aaron was beaten
in the last seconds of a hotly contested match for
third place.
275# Matt Larson--2nd
Matt wrestled his way to the finals before being
beaten. Matt has showed what hard work and superior
conditioning winning two matches in the third period.
