Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder
and salt in a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry
blender or two knives, until the mixture looks like fine crumbs.
Stir in milk until the dough is soft and leaving the sides of
the bowl. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for
1 minute. Roll or pat out dough to a 1/2 inch thick. Cut with
a floured cookie cutter. Placed on an ungreased cookie sheet,
close for soft sides or 1 inch apart for crunchy sides. Bake
10 to 12 minutes or until golden. Serve immediately.
You can add your favorite herbs to this recipe if you wish.
