Within the Depths

Follow up to The Mysterious Daughter

Link has kindly accepted Sarah as his daughter. After all, he's always wanted a child. But when she kisses a boy, he gets mad at her and corrects her, but it could change his life forever.

Sarah was out playing with a few of her friends, being carefree like she normally was now. "I can't believe that you're a princess," her friend Karana exclaimed

"Yeah, kinda. But they're not my biological parents, you know," Sarah responded to Karana.

"I know. You're so lucky to have parents like them! Don't you think Link is cute?"

"He's my dad!"

"As you said, not biologically. Hey, if he ever divorces Princess Zelda, TELL ME." Karana blurted out. Sarah was disgusted by this.

"Yeah, whatever. I have to go home, see ya, Karana." Sarah raced off, and she could faintly hear Karana call "bye."

But Sarah didn't have to go home. She walked around on Hyrule field for hours sometimes, for which she was often scolded by Link. But, it didn't matter, he got back to himself in a few mere seconds.

The sun was going down now, and then she saw him in the distance. His hair was brown with blond streaks highlighting it. His eyes were green, and he had a daring grin on his face. Indeed, he was fourteen, but age didn't really matter to Sarah. She was turning 13 next month, after all. "Eric!" She ran to him and hugged him.

"How are things?" He said, kissing her. Sarah grinned.

"They're perfectly fine. Let's go to Death Mountain!"

They hiked for only a little time, and then they were on the Summit of Death Mountain, looking down at the marble-sized Kakariko Village. "I wonder what Hyrule will be like a hundred years from now," Sarah spoke softly.

"I think it'll be very different. You'll be 113 and I'll be 114!"

"We'll be dead."

"Yeah, I know, but we'll still be that old." Sarah didn't know what it was like to love a boy, but she felt herself being attracted to Eric. She held his hand, and she thought she was piecing together what love was. She liked Eric!

It was the perfect moment now. The moon had risen, and she was getting chilly. They huddled together, and then it happened. She kissed him, SHE. Not he. She thought all was good until...

"SARAH!" She looked back, and Link was standing there, watching her. Had he seen it? Did he know that she had kissed him?

"Come on, its getting chilly, lets go home."

Sarah was quite happy when she found out that he didn't know. The next day, she headed off again. She met Eric again, but all things must end. "SARAH!" She turned around sharply, and Link was standing there again. He was mad. He had seen her kiss Eric.

She went home and she was scolded for a long time. She didn't like it, and went to bed crying. It was the first time she had seen Link so angry. So, she hatched a plan. "They're nice and all...but I don't belong here." She sifted through all of her belongings, and packed them up in a bag. "My life is adventure and I don't have a family. Goodbye dad, goodbye mom..." Sarah leaped out of the window, and off she was for a long time.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE'S GONE?!" Link bellowed. "Anything could get her, she's so vulnerable."

"Link, calm down! Okay...lets try to think where on Earth she could have gone." Zelda was breathing heavily, and they had discovered she was missing a half an hour ago. "But...she wasn't kidnapped, she ran away. She even took the time to write a note!"

Dear Mom and Dad,

Castle life isn't for me. I don't deserve that kind of treatment. I don't want to grow up as a stuck-up and heartless person. I'm going to find a home that has children my age and a family that loves kids. You two are warriors and cannot have a 13-year-old tagging along all the time. Someday, dad, I'm going to grow up and become a very strong warrior, and for years to come my legend will be told and told again.
I love you, but its impossible for me to stay with you.

Love always,

Sarah

Link took no time to wait. As soon as he heard this message, he bolted out the door to search for his young child.
