The Mysterious Daughter

Sequel to The Last Kiss

"Good morning, Link." Said Zelda. It was the same greeting he always got every morning.

"Good morning, Zelda." They were living in the castle now, since Zelda's father had said he didn't want the Hero of Time and his daughter living in some crummy house. The Kokiri were saddened because Link didn't live there anymore, but he visited every single day and spent a few hours in his little house each day.

Link enjoyed a cup of tea, and stared down at it. He was bored, again. He wanted adventure! How can a warrior spend his life fighting, and then just stop to settle down? He couldn't live his life like that, nor did he know anyone whom could live like that.

Zelda wasn't so much a warrior. She had lived within the four walls of the castle basically her whole life. She had been pampered, but she was serious and wasn't that spoiled. In fact, she was really nice.

Link decided to take his wife of two months on a horseback ride. "Hey, Zel, would you like to go horseback riding with me today?"

"Would I? That's a foolish question!" It didn't harm Link, though, because he already knew the answer. She wanted to go.

Sarah kicked the stones on the side of the road. She kept her hand on the hilt of her sword. She was tall, strong, and smart for a girl the age of 12. She stood a tall five feet and seven inches and she weighed 127 pounds. People always called her an Amazon, since Amazon's were a group of very tall and muscular women.

Sarah remembered her younger years. Her father had abused her and her mother, and he even abused her little brother that later died of pneunomia. Her mother later turned to alcohol for help, and when they had almost hit rock bottom, they couldn't afford raising a daughter anymore, and booted their daughter out on the roads when she was five in a half.

Sarah had an undying wish to get a family. A kind, gentle loving family. Yet, her experience when she was sent out to live on her own had turned her into a somewhat cold person. She pretended she was happy and hated her parents. She didn't know what it was like to love a family. But she knew it was something good and she wanted a family to love her, and maybe once in her life, she'd know what love felt like.

Whenever she saw a father hit a child, she wanted to run to him and say, "Don't you dare touch that child!!!" If he was just disciplining his child, she would let them be, but if he hit the child forcefully and the child had done nothing wrong, she would threaten to hurt him, no matter the consequences.

To see a person strike another person, it brought back horrible memories. Memories of her father hitting her mother, her brother...herself. She didn't want anymore pain in Hyrule, and she was going to fight for it.

Her light skin was starting to burn a bit, she blinked her blue eyes and tossed her golden hair over her shoulder. Her hair was wavy and long and it had no split ends. "Someday," she said, watching a family of four enjoy a picnic. "Maybe someday I will be like them."

Link and Zelda headed out, riding on Epona. Zelda was giggling and laughing the whole way as Link told her funny jokes about goblins, himself, Gorons, Zoras, and the Gerudo. Good thing he didn't pass any of them on the way, or they may have taken it as an insult.

They stopped by Lake Hylia, where their date before Ganon escaped had been. They sat by the waters, and it was noon so they couldn't see the moon or the stars. "Would you like to go for a swim, Princess?"

"Oh, Link, why would I wear my bathing suit here If I didn't want to?"

"How should I know? Maybe you just wanted to put your feet in it..."

Zelda jumped into the water and shouted. "Its cold!" She wrapped her arms to warm up. Link laughed and he dived in, wearing his tunic and his hat. Zelda laughed at him. "Why are you wearing that instead of a swimsuit?"

"I'll be warmer than you will."

"That depends."

Sarah was sitting on the Scientist's lab. She examined the two figures swimming and laughing in the water. "I bet they're boyfriend and girlfriend," she mumbled. "Wait...that's Princess Zelda and The Hero of Time. Link is so kind and so is Princess Zelda...maybe they will give me a good home." But she paused a moment and shook her head. "Why would Prince Link and Princess Zelda want to take in a peasant like me?"

She didn't realize that Link himself had been a peasant. Link didn't enjoy being called 'Prince Link' just Link or the Hero of Time.

"Zelda..." Sarah mumbled. "Means Woman Warrior..." She paused and thought about Link's name. "His name means flowing river. Their names match their personalities." She put her head down. "I wish I could be as good as them."

She leaped down, approaching them. She was dressed just like a Kokiri, in a small, kokiri skirt, and a small kokiri top with a little brown belt around her waist. She had black, leather boots that went all the way to her knees. Link noticed her, and he noticed her holding her sword. He leaped out of the water, soaking wet.

"Who are you?" He asked, examining her.

"I'm Sarah, Link."

"How do you know who I am?"

"DUH! You're the Prince of Hyrule." Link had quite forgotten that fact.

Link had noticed that she had a little dirt smudged on her face. Link moved closer to her. "How old are you? 19, 20?" He noticed a giggle coming from her.

"You can never guess a person's age by their height. I'm 12, and in need of a home. My parents dumped me 6 and a half years ago." Link felt sorry for this girl.

"ZELDA! COME HERE!" Zelda climbed out of the water, a grin on her face until she saw this other girl who was an inch taller than her.

"Who?!"

"This is Sarah, she's 12-years-old and she needs a home."

Zelda paused. "Well, you can stay with us for a while." Link smiled at Zelda for her choice. They headed home, and this time on the way home there sat three people.

After one week, Sarah knew what love was. She had already been calling Link "Dad" and Zelda "Mom," even though they were just five years older than she was. She loved them. She loved Link. She loved Zelda. She knew what love was now. Zelda and Link loved her. She finally had a family. Or so she thought...

Link and Sarah went fishing one day. Sarah was a bit disappointed when she hadn't caught any fish and Link had already gotten ten. But her Luck improved a few hours later- she ended up with twenty fish and Link ended up with seventeen.

On other days, Sarah would sew with Zelda. It was relaxing and she made herself a new skirt, and she made herself a backpack to carry her weapons in. Some days, she even helped Zelda to make cookies and cake and dinner.

And on other days, Zelda, Link, and Sarah would go horseback riding. They'd also go to restaurants some nights for dinner, or they went to Gerudo Valley to practice their archery skills. Sometimes, Link would take Sarah to the Temples, which were now safe since Ganon was gone. Sarah truly loved this family, but all good things must end...

Link was horrified. There was a letter in the mail requesting the return of Sarah.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Link,

I recently heard that you have my daughter. She has been missing for years and I was so worried about her. If you do not return my daughter within two weeks, you will be in a lot of trouble.

< >< >< >< >-Tarah March

So, Sarah's mother was Tarah. Tarah March. That made Sarah, Sarah March. But return her? No way! Sarah had told them the whole story of her life and had told them that her mother and father had abandoned her and told her to "beat it" when they booted her out. She wouldn't want to go back, and nor Link or Zelda wanted to return the daughter they had grown to love so much.

That night, Link went to Sarah's room. She was in her nightgown, reading a story about her "dad" another Hylian had written. Link sat down next to her. "So, have you learned a lot about your new dad here?" She nodded, not taking her eyes off the book.

"I have bad news for you, Sarah." Link's eyes had turned red and he was starting to cry. Sarah dropped her book, sat up, and listened carefully.

"Why are you crying? What's wrong?"

"Sarah, your parents want you back." A horrible look crossed Sarah's face. Her mouth opened, and what came out a low moan morphed into a scream. Her eyes reddened and she started crying just as Link had.

"You won't make me go back! You can't! You know what they did! Don't send me back!" She was crying, and Link understood her pain.

"I can't do anything about it, Sarah. Even though I'm a prince, I can't keep someone else's child."

"Well, then make a way to help." Link was a little angered by her snapping, but he knew she was right. He couldn't let her get abused for the rest of her life. But two weeks passed quickly, and Link had to return her.

Link met Mr. and Mrs. March by Lake Hylia. Sarah had been hiding behind Link the whole way. "Where's my daughter?" Mrs. March demanded. Sarah stepped forth. Her mother put on fake surprise. "Oh, sweetie, you've grown so much!" Sarah looked back at Link with a pleading look in her eyes. Mrs. March grabbed her daughter's arm roughly, and Link knew it probably left a bruise.

"COME HERE, YOU LITTLE BRAT! After I booted you out I knew that I'd need your services. But guess what? Now that we're reunited, I'm going to work you until you starve to death. You'll only get fed once every three days. Got that?" Link overheard Mrs. March. He ran forward and took hold of Mrs. March's shoulder. He grabbed both Mr. and Mrs. March and took them both back to the castle. They were charged of abandoning a child and were put into the castle dungeon. As for Link, Zelda, and Sarah, they lived a life happily ever after, with eachother, and as a loving, caring family.
