It's smarter than your average swordless Link trick!
First do the trick where you can remove the fishing pole from the pond as an adult. Now go to the Temple of Time, become a kid, then an adult, then save and hit reset. Now your sword will no longer be in your inventory... the only way to get it back is to nearly beat the game and save or to equip the big goron's sword and save and reset.
