Button Controls

Z button

This is arguably the most important button in Zelda. If you are facing towards the camera just tap this button and the camera will move to behind Link's shoulders. It is also used for fighting. If Navi turns yellow over an enemy then press and hold Z and the enemy will be locked onto. You can then do lots of moves with your sword and use shooting weapons very accurately. This is called "Z-targetting" (wow catchy name huh?). You can also use this to talk to people.

A button

This is also a very important button. This is the "action icon" (whoa these names keep getting better and better!) It is used to open doors and chests etc., to talk to people, to grab blocks, to drop off of ladders, for doing a lunge in Z-targetting and for backflipping and rolling etc. Basically if the blue icon at the top of the screen says it, you can push A to do that!

B button

This is your sword button. You just tap it to swing your sword. You can do all sorts of cool moves by pushing the control stick and hitting B, especially in Z-targetting mode. You can also hold this down to do a cool slash! And when you get a magic meter it gets even better!!!!

R button

This just pulls out your shield and thats about it! If you are in Z-targetting mode you can hold R and run around with you shield out!

Control Stick

Use this to move around. If you hold it down more you move faster. Run of a ledge and you will auto-jump. Thats it, pretty simple huh? Well you'll see when you play won't you?

Left, Right and Bottom C Buttons

Once you get some items like the Slingshot, Deku Sticks, Deku Nuts, etc. You go to the pause menu select the item you want and hit one of these C buttons. Then when you are playing hit that C button and you will pull out that item. Get that? No? Well then read what it tells you when you get one of those items in the game!

Top C Button

Hit this to go to a 1st person view. You can use the control stick to look around. If you are in a house then this will change the view to an overhead view. If you are locked onto an enemy or boss hitting this will make Navi give you some vague hints about that enemy.

Start Button

As in most games this button pauses the game. From the pause menu you can equip items to a C button, pick which sword, shield, tunic or boots you wear, look at a map of Hyrule or whatever dungeon you're in or check out how you're quest is going (by seeing how many heart pieces you have, how many skulltullas you have and you can look at which songs you've learned).

L Button

This is pretty useless. All it does is turn off the map in the lower right cornor of the screen. Hit it again to turn it back on.

Sword Moves

Vertical Arc

Press Z and B together and Link will swing the sword in front of him in a downward arc.

Stabbing

While holding Z press up on the control stick and hit B and Link will stab forward. This is useful for killing enemys like Stalfos and Wolfos.

Swinging

Hold B and let go and Link will swing his sword around in a circle. Getting the magic meter will allow you to charge up your sword at the cost of your magic meter.

Lunge

While in Z-targetting mode with your sword out hit A to make Link lunge forward with his sword. This attack is useful for killing tough enemies because it does twice the damage of a normal sword hit.

Defense Moves

Rolling

While running press A and you will roll forward. This doesn't do much but it's there anyway. If you roll continuously you will move faster-this is good for crossing spaces like Hyrule field.

Backflip

While in Z-targeting mode press back on the control stick and hit A to backflip away from the enemy. This is useful for backing away from attacks.

Side Jump

While in Z-targeting mode move sideways and hit A to jump sideways in that direction.

Walking with shield

While in Z-targeting mode hold R and you can run with your shield out.

Navi

Navi is your own personal fairy. She is used for Z-targeting and she give you useful hints. Her color is important. If she flys off to a place and she turns a different color it mean something
Yellow- Enemy
Blue- A person or other friendly thing.
Green- A secret is near.
