Dust in the Wind

Two shots ring out breaking the silence.
The killer goes running,
The kill already forgotten.
The man runs out to find them dead.
His fiancé after twenty years of togetherness,
And his best friend now of two years.

He'd just seen them,
Told them to go outside to be safe,
And now they're gone.
He'd just gotten her back from her kidnapper,
Who now was dead.
The kid who killed them gone.

He held her head in his lap and wept,
Realizing he'd never see her again.
The killer was never found.
The case was never solved.
No one had seen him but the dead.
There would be no vengeance for his lost love.

The killer moved on never remember that night,
For he was high on drugs and blacked out that night,
And he married and had a child.
The killer had a happy life after that night,
But the man did not.
He lost everything he loved and was not able to fully move on.
They were good people who did not deserve their fate.
The man was good and didn't deserve that pain.
And spatters all we knew of dénouement,
The killer had no pain,
The killer had no loss,
And the killer did not know he was a killer.
