Name Explanations

I have here an explanation of why each animal is named what they are. I hope you find this as interesting to read as I found them to write.
Beyond The Sea: His sire is Roll Of Thunder, title of a book. "Beyond The Sea" is the title of a song. Also, his dam is London Exchange, and London is across the sea. *silence*
ALL RIGHT, I named him after an X-Files episode. U happy now?
Spirit Mountain: Firstly, her sire is Mountain Eagle. Secondly, she was born around my birthday, and I had just watched my two favorite movies, "Legend Of Wolf Mountain" and "Journey to Spirit Island". I combined them to name the filly.
Mountain Rainmaker: His sire is Mountain Eagle, and his dam is Spanish Sky (as in, rain comes from the sky). I was going to call him Kokopelli, then I decided that "rainmaker" sounded better.
Thunder Warrior: He is one of the Thunder Ridge horses, and he was a medicine hat. In "San Domingo," it says that a medicine hat horse was sacred because in battle, he would give his life before his rider's.
Crowning Thunder: He got this name because he is a Tiara x Thunderwith baby (a tiara is a type of crown). His nickname, King, is because as a stallion he's got a higher status than his half brother Prince.
Last Princess: The name was decided before she was born - to be given to Tiara’s last filly. Very fitting. Her nickname, Diadem, is a synonym for the word "tiara".
Silver Thunder:A blending of her parents names, Thunderwith x Silver Hawk, as she's a grey (the first by these two to take her mother's color).
Final Thunder: The last foal sired by Thunderwith.
Black Fire: A blending of Silver Hawk x Crown Of Fire taking the pattern from the dam ("color, noun".) "fire" from the sire and "black" because she's black.
Thunder Fire: A blending of his parents' names, Black Fire and Roll Of Thunder.
Clouds Of Fire: Also a blending of parents' names, Black Fire and Roll Of Thunder, but since she's grey I used "clouds".
Sienna Storm: Her sire was Mountain Eagle, and she descends form several Thunder Ridge horses. Heather suggested "Sierra Storm," since the sierras were mountains; I changed this to Sienna Storm becasue Sienna made a good filly barn name, and she was a bay -brown coat. Nat insists upon calling her Kiia.
Winter Storm Warrior: He was born in winter, and also his coat is nearly pure white. He descends from all of the Thunder Ridge horses and his sire is Thunder Warrior, and he's a medecine hat.
Black Fire: Her parents are Silver Hawk and Crown Of Fire. Since she's black, it is a logical blending.
Briar Rose: I had just read a book called "Briar Rose," one in a series of stories that takes a story and ties it into an ancient fairy tale. I bred Tiara to Thunderwith in hopes of getting a red roan filly to name this. I got her.
Rosebud Warrior: A blending of her parents' names, Thunder Warrior x Briar Rose. "Rosebud" is for being a smaller version of her dam and "warrior" is because she was the color of her father, a Medicine Hat.
Blacki: He's got a cute little name because he's a cute blind gelding. He's black and his dam is Black Fire.
Justa Catt: His sire is Jalape, and his breeder wanted the colt's name to start with the same letter as his sire. Also, his dam is Sunflower Kitty.
Clipped Gold: Partially from her parents names (Golden Nirvana x Clipper) and because I wanted a palomino. I decided I’d gotten one that had been clipped of its gold.
Clipped Image: He is the image of his father - an image clipped (and again, the sire is Clipper) of the black coloring.
Unclipped Perfection: I had been expecting him to be clipped of pretty coloring, like his siblings. But no, here was the palomino I had been waiting for! He was "unclipped". And "perfection" is partly from the fact that palomino was the perfect color and partly because his dam was Golden Nirvana (nirvana is the state of final perfection). His nickname, Dandy, was originally Jim Dandy because his color was just that, but it was shortened.
Little Frosty: A blending of her parents’ names, Frosty Blue x Little Eagle. Her nickname, Robin, is because eagles and robins are both birds. Robin was the specific bird chosen because she was red like a robin.
Celestial Heaven: This name just popped into my head, and sounded perfect for a Friesian filly. Her nickname, Nadalor, is her mother’s name (Orlanda) scrambled.
Dark Side Of The Moon: I had the line "Mysterious as the dark side of the moon," (from "I’ll Make A Man Out Of You", Mulan), stuck in my head, having just seen "Mulan" for the first time. I thought it would be good for Celestial Heaven’s colt because the moon is a celestial object, and the dark side of it is black, like his coloring.
Celestial Arrow: Her mother's name has "celestial" in it. This name I've had on my list for quite some time and I'm happy to use it.
Princess Starr: She came with this name. I have no idea of its meaning, but the "rr" is cool. Probably just a neat sounding name.
Deep Dreamer: He came with the name. I assume it is because both his parents had "dream" in their names (Recurring Dream x Day Dreamer), a common expression is a "deep dreamer".
Dreamstar: A blending of his parents' names, Deep Dreamer x Princess Starr.
Spooky Fox: He's named after Mulder on the X-Files...Mulder's first name is Fox and his nickname is "Spooky". In an episode last year, somebody asked him if he had a nickname. I insantly thought, "Spooky Fox!" and then, "What a good horse name..." Anyway, this horse is also red chestnut, like a fox. And being a Thoroughbred, he sometimes spooks. A pure double meaning. I like it!
Starbuck: So this would be the horsey version of Scully. Scully's dad nicknamed her "Starbuck."
Krycek: I was eagerly awaiting Starbuck, only when she was born..."she" was a colt. ("@$#&^%$#!") On "The X-Files," Alex Krycek is an evil character who was first introduced as Mulder's partner when Scully was abducted. Since this colt was here and Starbuck wasn't, I figured this was a pretty fitting name (and it sounded ike it could be a horse's name). Oh, and it's pronounced "CRY-check" - it's Russian.
Pennies And Dimes: The splotches of chestnut in his coat were the color of pennies, and, as a gaming horse, he "turns on a dime".
London Exchange: Named by breeder after a horse in an article - a woman bought her horse with the money she'd saved to go to Great Britain and so called her London Exchange.
Thunder Lady: Blending of her parents' names, Thunderwith x Lady Barrister.
Gallant Northstar: His sire was Milky Way and he was grey, like a star would be. He also had a very plucky nature.
Amiga: She is a sweet and friendly mare. "Amiga" means "friend" in Spanish, when describing a female.
King's Spanish Lady: She is an Andalusian mare, and her sire is King.
Fire Of Courage: His sire is Quiet Courage, and his golden coat, as well as his spirit, are like fire.
Das Marchen: Her name means "fairy tale" in German, as her dam is Fairy Dust.
Nostalgia: His dam is Bermuda Triangle, a name conveying mystery. Also, he is a white donkey with a curly coat, reminiscent of the days when only kings would ride such animals. And finally, I had just watched a beautiful solo ballet to the song "Nostalgia".
Little Birdie: I was obsessed with a funny quote that "Zoe" had said on a show called Zoom, where she commented in a British accent, "He’s a lit’le birdie..". So Rosa’s daughter got that name.
Jezebel: At the time, I was rather interested in learning about Jezebel - Rosa’s first daughter was named on a whim, why not this one? Also, her sire is Damaging Devil - equate the Jezebel from the Bible with evil.
Little Devil: Just a blending of his parents’ names: Little Birdie x Damaging Devil. He’s really a sweetheart.
Auster: He came with this name. The owner has not told me how this name came about. However, I've decided that it came from "Black Beauty". One of that horse's many given names was "Black Auster". (and this particular mule is indeed black)
Crash And Burn: I'm not sure...I think his sire is Damaging Devil and his dam is No Sin To Win. I'd guess that after a winning streak, if you aren't careful you'll crash and burn.
Dollar and Lira: These two have the same mom, Peso. Their original owner named all of Peso’s puppies after currencies.
Shep: A classic name for a sheepdog (comes from "shepherd"). Ragamuffin: Coming in off the streets to the pet center, she had scruffy fur but a tough, spirited nature.
Sweet November: Her sire is Red October; also a movie title. So when I saw trailers for "Sweet November," I knew this would be a perfect name for Red's daughter, what with the "adjective - month" format.
September Winds: I knew a horse named this once...since his sire is Red October I thought it would be a good name for him.
Shep: Classic name for a good herding Collie.
Peridot: She’s a blue tabby…when I named her, I thought peridot was a blue gem (it’s actually green…my bad :o).
Pumpkin: He’s an orange tabby.
Boots: Boots is black with white feet.
Jenna: I named her Jenna for no particular reason. I just liked the name.
Aramaic: Aramaic is the language that Jesus spoke. It sounded mysterious and alluring, so I gave it to a lovely Angora.
Oh, and um, 1 guess as to what show I was watching when I heard of it. *cough*
Chibi: Chibi is a Japanese Bobtail. Pronounced "SHIH-bee". In Japanese, "chibi", according to the dictionary, is a derogatory term for "short person" or "kid". But anime fans have turned chibi into meaning "small one" or "cute". I used the fan meaning.
Maneki: Named after the Japanese good-luck cat, Maneki-Neko, because his mother was a Japanese Bobtail.
Kitomi: This is played off Hatomi, the name of a female character from the same anime I got the name "Chizaar" from. "Kit" is the prefixed used as in "kitten".
Jumbo: He's a great big cat.
Charman: This is the RL cat of a girl I babysit for, who named her after a toilet paper commecial. It's pronounced "SHAR-min".
Kitty: I thought it would be funny to name a cat Kitty. She just looks like "Kitty".
Haunt: His fur is a pale silvery-grey, and looks ghostly at night.
Tigra: I picked the name before she was born, and it fit her (a calico) better than the grey cats. It's pronouced "TEE-gruh". I would have liked it on a tabby, but oh well.
Back.
