Harlem is a pretty mare, although she can sometimes be a little obstinant as far as listening to directions goes, particularly under saddle, meaning it's best to carry a crop and give her a slap when she refuses to go. Harlem is better behaved on the ground, where she's usually willing enough to follow along. Harlem always wears a full fly mask and sheet during the summer, because the combination of heat and flies sends her temper spiraling downward, and she becomes exceptionally cranky most of the time. She's definitely a cold-weather horse, growing one of the thickest coats in the pasture, which keeps her perfectly warm all through winter. She likes to be ridden out in the deep snow, plowing her way through untouched drifts. Pretty Harlem isn't overly fond of cats or kids, but she likes it when the dogs come along on rides, or visit her in the pasture.
