Anishinaabe is a quiet mare who tends to hang back in the herd of horses. Though gentle and unintimidating, she tends to be easily frightened and is shy around crowds of strange people, keeping to the back of her stall at shows. Under saddle is a different story. She loves to work with cows, chasing them down and cutting them apart from the herd. It’s easy to see that she feels like she’s fulfilling her purpose in that line of work. With unfamiliar riders, she is reserved and cautious, but once she gets to know you she’s very affectionate, pressing her forehead against your chest by way of greeting with a soft nicker. She loves to be groomed, especially having her mane and tail combed for ages. “Anish,” as her mouthful of a name is often shortened, is one of our very sweetest mares.
