Every Time I Close My Eyes - Chapter 10

Chapter 10

"Corinne, if I ever survive this, I'm gonna kill you," Brian exclaimed. BJ and I burst out laughing at him. Somehow we had made it to the park alive, and even more amazingly I somehow convinced Brian into a pair of rollerblades. :)

"Oh Brian, stop being so dramatic! You're doing fine!" I said, rollerblading just in front of him. He arched his eyebrows at me.

"Dramatic??" Brian said. "I've got wheels strapped to my feet, no control over where I'm going, and my knees are as wobbly as Jello, and you think I'm being DRAMATIC?!"

"This is no time to panic Brian--" I said.

"This is the PERFECT time to panic!" Brian cut me off. BJ and I laughed at him hysterically.

"Oh my God Corinne," BJ said, "Do you remember that one time we went rollerblading with Nick?" I thought for a moment, and then began laughing uncontrollably.

"YES!! Oh my God, how old were we? Like, 12?" I asked. "That was so funny... I can't believe how evil we are! Nick was being such a pain in the butt, so you and I plotted against him and he ended up in the bushes!" I laughed.

"Yeah, his butt was sore for a week!" BJ gasped as we both collapsed in laughter. Brian looked at us, unnerved. "Somehow... I do not find comfort in that...." he cried. "Don't worry," I said, "I would never do that to you." I comforted him, blading right in front of him. "Maybe you wouldn't!!" BJ exclaimed evilly, as she began to push Brian from behind. Since I was in front of him, I got rolled along as well, as Brian and I yelled.

"Oh no, BJ stop!" I cried, not being able to move. BJ did as she was told, but at that moment I tripped backwards over a stick. Brian couldn't stop in time, and he stumbled clumsily over my feet. "OW!!!" we both cried, finally coming to a stop. BJ was laughing at us, because I'm sure we were a funny sight. Brian's limbs were thrown all over the place, and I'd landed flat on my back! Brian laughed as he got up, but I was too sore to either laugh or get up. He skated unsurely to my side, and offered a helping hand. I took it and tried to rise, but crying out in pain I fell to the ground again. Both Brian and BJ stopped laughing, and Brian knelt beside me.

"Corinne, what's wrong?" he asked me. "I dunno Brian," I said, trying to move. Pain once again surged through my body, and I realized it was my leg. "I think I might have pulled something," I cried. Brian carefully placed his hands on my legs; "Which leg?" he asked. "My right one," I said. Brian carefully examined my leg, and I yelped when he touched my ankle.

"Uh-oh... I think we have a sprain here," Brian said, carefully setting my foot down. BJ sighed out loud. "Oh no. Corinne, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you!" she cried.

"It's okay!" I answered her. "It was all in good fun... I know you didn't mean for it to happen."

"All the same," Brian interrupted, "We need to get you back home and put some ice on your ankle... it's already starting to swell." BJ and I nodded our heads in agreement, and Brian unstrapped his rollerblades and pulled his sneakers out of a backpack he had been wearing. I also changed into my tennis shoes and tried standing up again. Any pressure on my ankle hurt immensely, and I stumbled into Brian's arms. He wrapped his arm around one shoulder, and BJ supported me from the other side as we slowly made our way back to our cars.

Since Brian's house was closer, we all headed over there. He set me carefully on his couch with a footrest under my ankle, and ordered me not to move. I smiled at how concerned he was as he hurried into the kitchen for an ice pack.

"My God," BJ whispered. "You'd think you'd cracked your head open!" We both laughed under our breath.

"Yeah... isn't he sweet?" I asked. She smiled. "Oh, he's adorable! I can't believe how close you two have gotten!"

I grinned. "I know!" I said. "You know, I thought that the first few months would be kind of awkward, considering our circumstances," I said, hinting towards Sarah. "But Brian's been totally fine with it, I'm kind of surprised."

"That doesn't surprise me at all," BJ said. I asked her why. "Oh, just because," she answered. I knew she was hiding something, but didn't bother to ask. She smiled suddenly, and exclaimed, "You know, I knew the very first day Brian met you that he liked you. Nick was telling me that after we had gone upstairs, he started asking all these questions about you!" I smiled as BJ continued. "Ever since that night Brian kept mentioning you in conversations with Nick-- I think he was quite impressed with you pulling Nick into the swimming pool!" she said. We both started laughing at that. He should have been around to see some of the other things me and BJ have done to Nick!

"What's so funny?" Brian said, smiling, as he walked in the room. BJ and I immediately stopped laughing and looked over at him innocently. "Oh, nothing," I said. "Just girl stuff." Brian looked at me as if to say, "Ah, say no more!" and knelt beside me. BJ and I looked at each other and started giggling again as his attention was turned away.

"This may hurt a little," Brian said as he placed a pack of ice on my ankle. I jerked my leg in shock. "Ow!" I cried. Brian gently held the ice to my foot as I squirmed. After a while, I got used to the cold feel of the pack, and the pain began to subside. "There... that wasn't so bad, was it!" Brian exclaimed, smiling at me. I gave him a look and ruffled his hair up with my fingers. Brian looked at me, bushy haired, and we both smiled.

"So..." BJ began. "What have you two been *ahem* up to??" she asked with an evil smile. Brian immediately got the hint and started blushing. "BJ!" I yelled at her. She began laughing as I continued. "For your information, little missy, we spent all day yesterday cleaning, thank you very much!" BJ gave me a perplexed look. "Cleaning? What for?" Brian and I looked at each other and back at BJ. "Um... it's a long story. I'll tell you later," I said.

After a couple hours of laughing and talking and making jokes, it was starting to become evening and BJ had to get home. "I'm sooo sorry that you ended up getting hurt, Corinne!" BJ exclaimed as she got up. Brian was cuddled next to me on the couch, and she looked at us and grinned. "But... you two did look hilarious lying on the ground!" she giggled.

"Oh yeah? And you'll look hilarious with my footprint on your butt, too!" I exclaimed. Brian laughed loudly as BJ pretended to be frightened.

She came over and gave me a big hug. "If I don't see you before you leave, I'll miss you like crazy!" she said. I hugged her back. "Oh, I'll miss you too!" I said. Before any tears could be formed, we said our goodbyes, and BJ left.

Brian slouched in his seat next to me, and sighed. "Ahh... alone at last!" I looked over at him and he smiled broadly. "Oh? And just what do you plan on doing?" I asked him, arching my eyebrows. Brian's grin only got larger, and I laughed as he rolled over in his seat and nuzzled his nose next to mine. He leaned in to kiss me, and the phone rang. "Awwe man!!" Brian groaned as he got up to answer it. I laughed and threw a pillow at him.

He gave me a look that said, "I'll get you later!" and picked the phone up. "Hello?" he asked. I watched as a big smile spread across his sweet face. "Hi mom!" he exclaimed.
