Plot summary:
An earth girl named Hatome is mysteriously teleported to another world where she is rescued by Prince Van. Whenever Hatome is in trouble, the giant dragon robot Escaflowne appears. Escaflowne can only be piloted by Prince Van, and actually uses Van's blood to operate. Van often goes uncontrollably mad when piloting Escaflowne and it has been prophesized that they would destroy the planet. At the end of every mini-saga Hatome declares her love for Van and then gets teleported back to earth.
