Memories of DP/PPP/Ridefest

Now that I've had a little time to let it all settle in,
these are the memories of one weekend in October that I would like to share with you:

  • Steel Force, the office park. Really, no matter where you sit, this is a great ride. Even though I give the edge to Mamba and Magnum, it's easy to see why so many rank it their favorite steel coaster. It's so smooth, has great airtime, a great helix and a fabulous return run. The exit out of the helix up onto the mid-course brake was the only spot that hurt my ribs, thanks to the tremendous g's this change in direction creates. I doubt I would have ever given this part of the ride much notice were it not for the tremendous pressure it put on my ribs! (For those of you who don't know, I broke my ribs in June and re-broke them 6 days before leaving for Phunphest). Which leads me to:

PHOENIX PHALL PHUNPHEST

  • RRC at PPP. Anyone who attended this event will tell you about the special feeling of friendship present among RRCers. We packed around in groups big and small, and it was effortless to switch from one group of friends riding the Phoenix to another group headed for the Phlyers. One moment I was standing in line with Joe Schwartz, Cindy Stout, Dana and Dooley, Todd Long (thanks to LongWorld for sponsoring the phirst phlight on the phlyers), and Robert Ulrich, and the next minute I'd be standing around eating ice cream with Tom and Curt, Todd Long and Chris Lucht.

  • Riding the Phoenix with Cindy Stout. I visited Knoebels for the very first time in June with Cindy and we had such a marvelous time together. Whenever I think of the Phoenix I think of Cindy and it was great getting in that phront seat with her again.

  • My Top Phive Phavorite Phlyers: 1) Todd Long, 2) Adam Revesz, 3) Dooley Schwartz, 4) Tim Melago, 5) Brian Ondrey (isn't he a rookie?).

But Dooley cracked me up as Danny Binetti, as did Ted Ansley as CoasterNerd, Robb Alvey as Rumor Man (complete with giant RM lettering and cape), tv's Spatch with that spatula stuck in his head (I've already recounted the hilarious conversation he had with Keith Shiners kid) and the Ulrichs, aka Men in Black, passing out FBI wanted mug shots of peeps. And of course, THE image of Phunphest phor me - Todd Long's peep costume. I know he didn't want to wear it, and all I can say is Todd, you are one fine chick.

  • My award. Robert Ulrich told me "DON'T go to the bonfire before the costume awards are handed out." I said okay and figured we were going to have our own little RRC costume ceremony or group photo (which would have been really nice). Instead immediately after the costume awards were given out, Robert and Todd got on top of a bench right outside the Int'l Food Court pavilion, got everybody from RRC to gather around and made me stand in front of him facing everyone. I really had *no* idea what was going on, other than the fact that I felt like a complete IDIOT standing there in an evil clown costume. Then he said "Alright, who here has seen the No. 1 coaster video of the year?"

OH. MY. GOD.

When I got back the birthday cakes for Curt Hassinger and Robert Ulrich were already being served. They were absolutely huge cakes, and there was one that had coconut in it that was the best cake I've ever had, even better than wedding cake! Thank you Dana for bringing it. Quite awhile later we burned Inside Track - Joe Schwartz led the way, then we sang our songs. Dana actually has a very nice and even has the ability to trill. We sang the two songs pretty well I thought.

It was.

RIDEFEST

  • Dave Sandborg and the Skyliner. Just as the Phoenix makes me think of Cindy Stout, I will forever think of Dave Sandborg and the Skyliner. Dave was right there to greet me when I signed in and he rode with me eight times on the Skyliner before I had to leave. Dave and I agree the Skyliner is easily the most underrated of coasters. And Dave knows his coasters! For example:

Well, those are my lasting memories of one wonderful weekend in October.

Today for you, tomorrow for me
