Marcie's Website!:)

Hello! You've stumbled onto my humble home on the web. :) Who's me, you ask? My name is Marcie Matson. I'm a recent graduate of Concordia University in St. Paul, MN and will be continuing my education at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, working towards my Master of Science degree in school counseling. With my elementary ed background I hope I'll feel prepared when classes begin.

A little about myself...I was born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and grew up in the area--attended school grades K-12 in Frazee, MN, and graduated from there in 1998. Through the years I've enjoyed watching my younger family members grow up, and I absolutely love spending time with them.

A recent addition to our family is my amazing "boy"friend Ryan ("boy" in quotation marks because he's not a boy at all...). We met on the internet in the spring of 2002 (yeah yeah...I know...scoff scoff:) ) and met for the first time in December of 2002. After a rough winter...spring planted the seeds of romance and I couldn't feel more blessed. He's amazing...and I think we complement each other very well. We've spent the entire summer together and haven't killed each other yet, so that's good, right honey? ;-) At any rate, he's going to be an awesome, Godly husband and father, and I can't wait to share those things with him. He's currently attending Minnesota State University-Moorhead as well, and he'll be finishing up his undergraduate work this spring in elementary education, too!

So...that brings me to this...feel free to take a look around, check out the pictures and links and stuff...find out what's important to me and who I love. Hopefully I'll be able to find time to make this into kind of an online journal...that format seems to be the kind of personal touch I like...so...enjoy!

Okay...well...it's another year of school underway. I started my graduate studies at Minnesota State University-Moorhead last week. I'm going to be very busy. I'm only taking 6 credits, but that's full time graduate work, plus, it's supposed to be harder than undergraduate. I think I'm going to be alot more responsible for my own learning than I was at Concordia. I've also volunteered my time to the Graduate Studies Organization, namely the Counseling and Student Affairs chapter on campus. I'm the secretary, so I'll be typing my little fingers into a frenzy.

My aunt and uncle from Washington State have decided to move back to Minnesota. They'll be residing in Lake Park, which is between Fargo and Detroit Lakes. They bought a cafe and a house on their last visit late last month. We'll finally have a family business. It will be really interesting to say the least.:) So...be looking for the Lake Park Cafe to open October 1.

I'm still hunting for a job. I had an interview today at the Bridal Shop in Fargo, and I had another interview last week. I'm putting several applications in this week, so I hope something will come up soon. I'm also checking with temp agencies in the area and am thinking about putting an ad in the paper offering tutoring services. Hopefully that will fly. I'm also talking to a professor about a graduate assistantship revamping the Counseling and Student Affairs website, from which he wishes to remove his revolving head.:)

Ryan and I are still doing well. We're getting busy with school and such but we're trying to make time to see each other for at least a little bit every day. We're also looking for a church home in Fargo. I'm going to be brave and check out the Assemblies of God church with him, and we went to Fargo Baptist this last Sunday, which was okay I guess. We'll see. I'll keep you updated on that.

Anyway...I'm done babbling. :) I'll try to update this fairly frequently. Take care. God's blessings to you and yours.:)

Well, hello, hello again! I hope everything is going well for everyone. It's time for another little update here.:)

I finally am employed. I accepted a position with Calvary United Methodist Church in Fargo as the afternoon church secretary. Ryan and I have also started attending Calvary. It's wonderful--work-wise and worship-wise. Pastor Dave is the coolest there is. The morning secretary, Cheri, and I have had to iron out some things, but I've gotten to practice my assertiveness skills and things are going good now...I've also gotten to the point where I'm willing to let things roll rather than fester. Do you believe it? :) I'm usually so bad at those things.

Ryan and I have been doing well. A couple of weeks ago we got into our first "big one" I guess, but he asked me to go for a walk and we did that for about an hour and got things figured out for the most part. We had previously talked about getting engaged this fall, but it's not going to happen, and I'm definitely okay with that. We know it's out there...its just not the right time yet. God threw a road block in there...and we're not about to go around it.

At church we just finished the 40 Days of Purpose campaign. It was the best thing I've ever done spiritually, aside from accepting Jesus as my Savior. I believe that our church will be transformed by this thing, and that God will use it again and again throughout the US and the world. We started small group studies, and our small group decided to continue on after the holidays. I've learned to focus more on God and other Christians and also unbelievers, and less on myself. Also, at work, and also outside of work, I've been listening to more Christian music. There's a song by the group Casting Crowns called If We Are the Body that says "If we are the Body, why aren't his arms reaching? Why aren't His hands healing? Why aren't His words teaching? And if we are the Body, why aren't His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way? He is the way...Jesus paid much to high a price, for us to pick and choose who should come..." The words have really touched me and moved me to be more accepting and more loving to those I fellowship with.

School is going well. It's almost the end of the semester and luckily for me, Dr. Packwood has spaced most of our assignments out so there's not going to be a big rush at the end, which is good. Over Thanksgiving break I intend to get a good start on the last of my papers for Counseling Theories, and finish the last big one for Intro to Counseling Research. After I'm done here, I'm also going to register for classes for next semester. Most of my classmates should be in the same classes with me, including my new friends Tayt and Alicia, so I'm definitely looking forward to that. Only 2 1/2 years left. YAY!:)

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the holidays with your families. God's blessings to you now and throughout 2004.:) Live with thankful hearts!
