On KARMA (page 2)

First of all, in order for a human being to consciously do something (act), they would have to appropriate it, or internalise it from the surrounding circumstances. It sounds like monkey see, monkey do. You take a baby from a poor family into a rich family, and give it love, education, a good example to follow, and you will have a very good citizen.  Many Aboriginal children in Australia were fostered to white families, and ended up good citizens, some lawyers, some doctors, etc., unlike their counterparts in the original families, where generally speaking, they fared much worse. What of Karma? So, in order to produce Karma, the seed has to be planted in the psyche. We learn by example. Society at large is much to blame for the kind of example it sets to its future generations.

Secondly, once you have the seed of Karma, meaning you've learned by example to be good or bad, as you have been treated by your peers and society. I don't believe that one is born with remnants of karma from past lives, but karma lives in today's society for reasons explained later on. We simply borrow by example, not by knowledge. If a parent tells, or teaches the child not to smoke, but the parent keeps smoking, do you think that the child will be a non-smoker? The child wants to experience what others experience. Moreover, it has been known that some people have not been able to internalise hate under any circumstances, and they have been called Enlightened Beings. Do you know of any?

The process of internalisation of bad examples, does bring the so-called Satan in the Psyche. Because once sown, it is very hard to stop, and it can only be stopped after many years of soul-search and sometimes never. It is very hard for us to be aware of the actions we undertake, because we are focused on the object we act upon, or distracted by the reason we act, or the rational of it. The process of internalisation of good example is better than the previous one, but it is still based on internalisation of previous activities, and lives no room for flexibility. To do good under any circumstance is better than to do bad under any circumstances, but we don't have to be programmed to do things prior to events happening, or having a result in mind (which implies expectation!).

One must also be aware of the fact that there are two factors involved in action: Will and Desire. The first is better than the second, but both are not so good. Why?

THE WILL

Let's talk about Will. Will, is supposed to be the very core of one's Being, the very essence of Life. Once the Will to live is lost, one is dead (inside). Will implies Freedom, without which one cannot function properly, without which Intelligence is nothing but a theory. Will implies Freedom from Fear, and thus implies noble courage, the courage to die in order to live. An Eastern European song says that Christ began to live on his way to death, and only after he Died, He became truly Alive. He had to die to all that was internalised, all that which belonged to the World, to Society, he had to become Free from the Worldly Conditioning. He finally became Individualised (The Maker of his own Destiny). In the World, we are tangled in each other's destinies, because we influence and condition each other. The Will means a person can arrive at a decision without the least influence from the outside world, from external factors. It means that the external circumstances have no bearing on the Action of the Individual. If thus, where is Karma? When one does not react, where is effect? It is no easy feat! It is also said the Will is beyond reason, beyond the intellect. Why? Simple, because Will arrives at a decision through other than reasoning, such as most people in the world do. Will can be said to be Changeless, because it is not changed by outside factors/influences. We take an end desired, and take steps to achieve it. Will doe not care for result, it's only constant guard is that it does not fall into the traps of Desire, Maya. It acts with a view not on the end result, but on the situation at hand. In it there is no future, because things are done instantly, they do not have to be postponed. We will now look at Desire.

DESIRE.

Desire is an outcome of internalisation of external factors. It is the replication of what is internalised, the re-living of experience, and the gateway of Evil. Most people in the world are caught in it, it is the doorway to advertising, to buying. The most Evil aspect of Desire, it is that it erodes Will, thus making people slaves to cartoon things, or slaves full stop. It is the substance of addiction, if anyone has heard of the Addictive Personality. In that state, there is little contact to the Essence of one's Being, and one is opened to all kinds of evil, one is confused, materialistic, one wants almost anything that comes one's way. Shopaholics, collectors, etc. The works.

People who are weak (no strong Will), are open to suggestions, are open to hypnosis, are fearful, are unable to speak out, are consequentialists. They intellectualise everything, they rationalise everything. Desire, if not fulfilled, produces a kind of feeling of loss, unfulfillment, loneliness, depression, etc.   Desire is the only factor in the disease we call Possessiveness. People are Possessive only if they are slaves to the external world. If they have no free Will. They will kill in order to satisfy Desire, they are tormented by it. They mistake Love for Lust, they do things only in the name of Profit. What is worse, is that some of these people are so deep in Self-Deception, that they have no idea of who or where they are. To give an example. I am sure that you will know of philanthropists who are rich because they exploit, but then they give some money to some worthy causes (sic!) and people applaud them! That is not philanthropic at all, they are only returning what they have stolen!
