5-16-9...Sat...RFL...Far ibult...10:00 AM

Well first I would like to say Thank You for all the wonderful support and kind messages that you have left for Leah and its nice to see that maybe the true meaning of BMX is coming back,Friends,Fun,Family and Fair Play
Anyway on to the other news it looks like summers here and all the outdoor tracks are opening.I'll try and update this on a more reguler basis as to whats new.Well off to St.Micheal see-ya at the races

The Lone Star Nationals was a great one! With a wonderful open air facility and great weather you couldnt ask for a more enjoyable Nationals (well except for the drive home through about 5 tornadoes,a blizzard and about 1350 miles of highway)
Anyway, there where not very many Minnesota riders at these Nationals,I think there where 7 total.Boddy Edison,Jonas Stomberg,Joe Szurek,Jennifer Johnson,Leah Squires and I did see some off the Catz Riders as well.
All the Minnesota kids did well with Leah Squires Getting a 1st on Friday,A 1st on Saturday,Qualifying 1st on Sunday but falling in the mains.
Unfortunatley there where a few injurys this weekend,With Bobby Edisontaking a hard fall in the Rythm section,Knocking him out and ending him up in the hospital for the night. We are glad to say that everything checked out a ok,and Bobby will be right back racing. Also Jenny Johnsontook a hard fall and was out for Saturday and Sundays races. She came in 1st on Fridays pre-race but during qualifing on Saturday she endo'ed and got a trip to the hospital,we hope to see her back racing soon!

Last Night at R-Place Bmx was another fun filled night filled with exciting races and lots of riders. This track seems to promote great times for the adults and the kids!
On another note Ed Olson was
riding his new
last night and tearing up the track
on it.Cheetah's newest rider
looks like he could be a force to be reckoned with. Watch
for Ed to be flying the Cheetah colors soon
And it
sounds
like Nile
Smith has picked up a new ride with American Bicycles way to go Nile!
Watch for Nile to be hitting the racing hard this
season.

ext 2935 The ABA
has started to change all the districts over,If you go to
their website check out the district points,it looks like
they have finished with the changes to the boys
classes,But looks like they are still working on the girls
classes "Here is
the deal.I am Brad Hallin,Director of Membership for the
American Bicycle Association.I have a message that must
get posted. I have been involved with BMX since 1979 and
I am also a former District #3 rider from Minnesota in the
ealy 80's. The sport (no matter what sanction) needs "Bmx
Police",For the simple fact that sanctions cannot police
all the riders themselves. If someone breaks the rules,It
is not fair for any other rider who did play by the rules.
I beg riders to let me know (and I keep everything
anonymous) if they have any concerns about a rider. We
have procedures that we follow and we Never divulge our
sources (either to the rider in question or the rider who
informed us). The bottom line is this: If a rider is Not
following the rules (and I can obtain proof) action gets
taken, Whether the rider is a NAG rider or dead last in
the district standings,Failure to comply with ABA rules
Will result in action being taken. That is why we have a
sanctioning body in our sport and why our sport is so
successful. If anyone has any questions about
riders, rules or ABA policies, please contact me and I will
be happy to talk with you

Sincerly,
There was
lots of exciting racing going on this weekend!.Saturday at
Rehbeins Arena They had 33
motos. On Sunday Rehbeins had 42 motos. One of the
highlights of the day was the Pro open,Ed
Leision takes the win home this weekend. Also
I was informed that R-Place Bmx had another exciting and busy race day on Sunday!
Its nice to see Bmx growing like it is. On another
note,We are happy to say Robbie
Mayor is out of the hospital and doing
well,The Doctor says no racing for 6 months,But we are all
glad to see that Robbies doing good
Tonight at R~Place Bmx
was
a great night,Wow you should have been there! And if you
were there then ya know what I mean! Tons of riders and
even a Pro Am 16 inch class!!There was only one minor
injury tonight and that was to Nile
Smith Nile went down hard in the rythem
section battling for positon.Keep your eye on this up and
coming rider as he is sure to always be at the front of
his class
March 12,1998 GT Bicycles,Inc (NASDAQ,GTBX) Today
announced that it has initiated a voluntary recall program
of approximately 10,000 Bmx Bicycles and frame sets
manufactured and sold over the past 4 years,This recall
affects less than 1/2 of 1% of the approximately 2 million
juvenile bikes GT has sold since 1995.The company believes
that its warranty and other reserves should cover the cost
related to the recall, resulting in minimal financial
impact to GT.
"This recall is the result of GT's commitment to the
highest level of rider safety" Commented Micheal Haynes
President and CEO of GT Bicycles.Although all of the
frames recalled passed our rigid standards for Bmx Racing
Bikes,We became aware of 17 reported cracks in frames when
the bikes were subjected to the jumps and related stresses
of todays more aggressive Bmx riding. In an extrordinary
move GT is sending frames and a staff of mechanics to the
ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix this weekend.where they
expect to replace,on-the-spot.between 200-300
frames.Haynes is scheduled to attend the race on Friday to
answer first hand any questions cunsumers might have.
The new frames are twice as strong as anything currently
on the market. We will be contacting anyone who returned
the warranty card after purchasing one of the bikes
included in this recall,And we strongly encourage everyone
else riding these models to return thier bikes for the new
and improved frame.
The recall, which is being conducted in cooperation with
the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) includes
1995,1996,1997 and 1998 XL and XXL model GT Speed
Series,Speed Series Team and Speed Series Cruiser Frames
and bicycles as well as 1997 and 1998 Robinson Models
Pro,Pro XL,Pro Team,Pro 24,Amtrac and Defender frames and
Bicycles.
The model name can be found on the bicycle frame. The
company advises that consumers should immediatly stop
using bicycles equipped with these frames and call thier
local GT authorized dealer to arrange to have the frame
replaced free of charge.
The
Location for
the 1998 Land "O" Lakes Nationals has been decided....Drum
Roll Please! Crow River Bmx! St.Micheal MN Congratulations to Sheryl and Jeff
and the Whole St.Micheal Crew! You guys deserved
it!
Today Rehbeins Arena had 35 motos and
lots of great races! There where alot of Older Cruiser
riders with some real good races going on in the Cruiser
classes! It sure was fun to watch the Old School style of
racing! On another note Adam
Welter brings
home the first in the always exciting Pro Open class.Could
there maybe be another Minnesotan thinking about turning
Pro? Great job Adam! I would like to update the
injury report. We're sorry to say that
Aubrey Jungbauer did break her
arm last weekend giving the boys a run for there money in
the open class. We wish Aubrey a speedy recovery. And are
looking forward to seeing her back on the track. Also at
the GCQ earlier this year Erik
Whiski was out in front of the pack and took
a hard fall breaking some ribs. Were glad
to say he is back to racing and looking forward to tearing
up the tracks this summer!
So far
it has been a great
Weekend for racing! Lots of fast,Exciting motos! Friday
night at R~Place Bmx was
once again exciting and fun to watch with great rider turn
outs.this
is for sure a great way to spend a friday night! Also Randy Vanderhayden Decided to show of one off his latest works of art,
A three wheeled 20 inch Bmx Bike! Way cool Randy!
Saturday turned out to also be a great day for racing with
133 riders and 32 motos at Rehbeins
indoor Bmx. One of the highlights of the day
was watching the new 4 year old novice make it around the
track! Way to go Bud,give this guy a few months and he'll
be clearing the doubles! Well one more day of racing, check
back here tomorrow for the latest scoop on Sundays
races. The
Latest info I have received About Robbie Mayor is that he is still
in a local Hospital recovering from his injurys from a
fall last weekend at Rehbeins Arena. Are best wishes go out
to Robbie,And we hope for a quick recovery for him!
I am
going to add a short cuts page for the ABA's website,I
know sometimes it takes for ever to get info from there
site,So hopefully this will make it a little easier to get
to the Info you want to check out.Click here to get to the
ShortCuts Page.
The
famous Camp Avalanche
Training Clinic is coming into town.Sounds Like theres
gonna be some great riders from the Answer team teaching
this 3 day Clinic. if your interested in being in this
clinic contact Rehbeins Arena for
more info.I know its a limited rider clinic so ya better
get signed up now, before its to late.Click on Rehbeins
name to go to there website.
First
I would like to start off with the injury report,I
have heard that Robbie Mayor
Was taken to the Hospital after a fall at Rehbeins with an
injured Spleen,And that it may possible be ruptered,We
hope that is not the case and are best wishes go out to
Robbie!,If anyone knows how he is doing, or where he is at
Please let us know so we can drop Robbie a line and send
him a get well card. On another note,Rumor has it that
Aubrey Jungbauer May have
Broken her arm or Wrist,Aubrey Went down hard in her open
class,And we hope it was just a sprain or Bruise.hurry up
and get well Aubrey so you can show those boys a lesson!
On another note Justin
Osterbauer Once again tore up the pro open
class,With an impressive come from behind win in one of
his moto's.Way to go Justin...Hmmmmm can you spell Rookie
Pro of the year? Last and Finally,Leah
Squires was DQ'ed today at Rehbeins for
aggressive riding in her moto,Hmmmm I feel this is pretty
interesting considering that A: The Sport is BMX not
VeloDrome racing B; Leah Never looked over while she was
trying to get her line C: The other Kids parents saw
nothing wrong and D:The reason I was told that she was DQ
was because she saw the other person,Not by looking at
them,But with Peripheral Vision? Here is the official
rule
from the ABA's "98" Rule book Page -24- section 25 "The
lead rider can take any line available on the track. (this
relates to any rider ahead of any other rider-2nd place
ahead of 3rd, 5th ahead of 6th etc.) Strategy plays a big
part in the sport of BMX and moving into the line of
another rider IS A STRATEGIC AND LEGAL MOVE.However if the
lead rider LOOKS BACK and intentionally moves over so as
to interfere with another rider,That can be considered a
foul and may result in a Disqualification."
i dont see the word peripheral vision anywhere in the
rule book. But I guess thats racing
Exciting night at
R~Place Bmx great rider turn
out,And the ever Exciting Palmquist,Sampson,Ogren moto was
once again very fun to watch with Palmquist taking the first this
time.Watch for more Pro interviews coming up soon! The
latest Info I
have recieved about the district changes goes like
this,MN03 will run from a
line east to west and go through
the Cities (Mlps) anything South of that will Be MN03
anything North will be MN01
Until you get to Cambridge
then it will be MN02 or
MN04 (Still not to sure),So
for
anyone that was thinking of doing the old district
switch-a-roo trick,Doesnt look like its gonna be so easy
this year.Rumor has it the ABA is already to make the switch to the new
districts, but so many people will be switching
districts (Either back to MN01 or to MN03) That they dont
have enough paper to print all the new membership
cards,Watch for the change it should be soon
American
Bicycles has some Co-Factory Spots
Available,Im not sure what they are offering, but I thought

Co-Factory Application,Send $2.00 to American
