Unaware of tomorrow
blinded from yesterday
searching to find my way home
I enter the forest of darkness
fog swirls clingingly around my knees
my path hidden from my sight

I cry in fear at the whispers I hear in the night
shivering inside my soul
tendrils of icey cold reaching towards my heart
in the distance I see a glimmer of light
no..I must of imagined it
yet....still.........

I strain to see farther ahead
what was that?
yes!! there up ahead.....
my feet carry me forward as though on their own accord
suddenly finding a truer path
easily winding along a path hitherto I could not of said was there

further down the lane I hear a tinkle of laughter
the happiness of voices raised in fun
a splash of water here
a giggle there
a smile softly touchs my face as I drift back in memory
back to a time when .....

two children splash innocently in a pond
their pants rolled up to their knees
chasing tadpoles in the water
their mother sits on the shore on a blanket
laughing instead of scolding as they splash each other and soil their clothes

in the woods a tear rolls down my cheek
my path seems a little easier, wider
it curves in another direction as I walk, but I hardly notice
now more content to see where it takes me
the memory of a summer day warming the chill around me slightly

as my path turns a corner I see between the trees a field of flowers
daisys in abundance bending gently in the wind
bees buzzing lazily around in the warm breeze
busily gathering pollen for the hive
insuring sweet honey for warm toast......

a family of four sitting at a table in a kitchen
sweet smells wafting around
laughter and talking as each spread honey over hot toast
chilled ornage juice in glasses at each plate
mother and father intent on each story as its told

my pace quickens to almost a skip
I found myself humming a favorite song I hadn`t thought of in years
slowly the words returning to me
I hear the sound of a piano in the distance
and the words of love fill the air.......

a young lady now, no longer a girl
sitting at the piano another young man
fingers tickling lightly across the keys
their eyes locked as he sings of his love to her
how they will forever be together in their hearts

I see the edge of the forest
my path now clear
my way now evident
a smile on my face as I near what was my destiny all along
stepping out of the edge of the forest I find my home........

I find my....Return to Innocence
