The Sunline - outside

Side view

Here is a side view of the Sunline. My weird looking house is in the background.

Side view, with car attached

This is my car which I used to haul it home, and to move it around the yard. Ive also hauled it up and down the road to scrub the tanks. But thats as far as I will go until I get a tow vehicle. Amazing, isnt it? Even with one of the smallest travel trailers, my midsized 105" wheelbase car is dwarfed.

Weight distributing hitch

Here is a view of the Reese weight-distributing hitch I got new for $50. It was a clearance item apparently. It is rated for 500# of tongue weight, which is fine since the Sunline has a tongue of about 300#. It was also a "weld-together" style hitch, which is proabably why nobody wanted it. But it was easy enough to turn into a bolt-together hitch. I just drilled out the hitch head at the same spacing as an adjustable hitch bar. To fit my class II hitch, I made an adapter from an old class II hitch bar, some steel plates, and some grade 8 bolts. It works with my class II hitch because the front hitch attachment points on the car are not just T-nuts, but are 18" long steel bar stock to spread the force over the "frame". But even so, it is still too much for the drivetrain. When I get a vehicle with a class III hitch, I can just attach an adjustable hitch bar in place of my adapter.
