Cheerleading can be time consuming and expensive. Normally, the squad has two-three practices per week. This is subject to change if the squad is preparing for a competition or special performance. Transportation to and from practices is your child’s responsibility.
Expenses will include camp, shoes, bodysuits, briefs, socks, cheer fleece (fleece is Varsity only), competitions and gymnastics classes(gymnastics optional). Approximate costs are as follows:
Camp-$15.00 Shoes-$60.00 Bodysuits-$30.00
Briefs-$10.00 Fleece-$60.00
Gymnastics class-$50.00(optional)
Competition-costs can vary and some will be paid for by the school
We will be attending Victory Cheerleading camp at Chippewa Hills High School on Saturday November 22. If your child makes the squad the first payment of $15.00 (for camp) will be due Monday November 17. I will be working to keep costs down. Please be aware that any fundraisers we hold will be used towards uniforms and team equipment not the above costs.
Attached is a copy of the rules and regulations for Tri County Cheerleaders. Please read them carefully with your child before signing the parental permission form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jennifer Birdsall, Varsity Cheerleading Coach

TRI COUNTY AREA HIGH SCHOOL
2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR
To assure that all students are given equal opportunities to explore, display, test, evaluate and refine their talents, the Tri County Cheerleading Squad will attempt to provide opportunities for successful student self-expression and personal growth by fostering community and parental support.
GOAL:
The goal of this constitution is to develop a set of uniform guidelines for the Tri County Cheerleading Squads. These guidelines will focus on the proper implementation of tryouts, membership requirements and performance expectations.
MEMBERSHIP:
1. Each member will give of her/his time to participate in required activities throughout the school year. The individual should not hold a job that will interfere with these activities.
2. Each member will participate in all assigned fund raising activities.
3. The members and their parents shall be aware of the responsibilities and expenses of the squad as those items/expenditures become necessary.
4. The parents must be willing to support the member in complying with all rules and regulations of the school and the organization.
5. The student must have a physical on file at Tri County High School.
6. In order for a student to be eligible to try out for the cheerleading squad, the student and/or parent must attend a scheduled orientation meeting.
ORGANIZATION:
Membership on the Varsity cheerleading squad is open to young women/men in the 9th-12th grades. Membership on the Junior Varsity cheerleading squad is open to young women/men in the 9th and 10th grade.
To become a cheerleader, the student must participate in a tryout procedure, and follow rules and regulations set forth in this constitution and those general rules provided by the Tri County Athletic Department and School District.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. All members will attend athletic events, practices, activities and competitions designated by the coach. Members must participate in projects to promote school spirit and assigned fundraising activities.
2. Any member who does not meet performance expectations during practice, or who has one or more unexcused absences from practice, may be excluded from participation in that week’s performance.
1. All members are expected to maintain eligibility. Grades will be reviewed on a weekly basis by the Athletic Director. Members are responsible for turning in athletic eligibility sheets weekly as required by the Tri County School District. Poor grades may result in dismissal from the squad, as is set forth by the school district.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES:
1. A cheerleader may not participate in any other sport during the season for which he/she is cheering. He/she must stay at practice the entire time unless excused by the coach. Doctor and dentist appointments should be made at a time that will not interfere with practices or cheerleading activities. Doctor and Dentist appointments, jobs and baby-sitting are not acceptable excuses to miss practice or leave early and will be counted as unexcused.
2. A cheerleader should represent his/her school in an acceptable manner in every way possible at all times—especially in uniform. Cheerleaders should not engage in public displays of affection.
3. A cheerleader must use discretion in regard to his/her actions toward others, both in school and at the games.
4. Regardless of age, no drinking of alcoholic beverages and no smoking of any kind is allowed.
NOTE* Cheerleaders are not only expected, but required to be polite, respectful and courteous to other squad members, the spectators and especially to the visiting cheerleaders. This is a great opportunity to get to know students from other schools. You are ambassadors of our school and your behavior will ultimately reflect not only on your squad but also the entire school. If at any point in time the coach becomes aware of a problem in this area, the cheerleader(s) will be dealt with in accordance to the rules set forth by the cheerleading organization and the Tri County School Athletic Department.
TRYOUTS:
1. Eligibility for tryouts include:
A. Candidate will return all required paperwork in a timely manner.
B. Candidate will be required to attend as many of the tryout practices as possible.
C. Candidates who are academically ineligible will not be allowed to tryout.
D. Candidates who have previously quit a Tri County High School cheerleading squad will not be accepted on the squad the following year.
E. Candidates will be scored in 3 areas including teacher evaluations, candidate questionnaires and cheerleading ability including appearance and spirit. Poor attitude or behavior issues at tryout practices could result in a lower score.
EXPECTATIONS:
1. Cheerleaders must dress in appropriate clothing for all practice sessions. NO jewelry, jeans, or hard-soled shoes may be worn. Also baggy clothing can be dangerous when stunting. Hair MUST be tied away from face and off shoulders. *This is expected at games as well. This is a safety precaution.
2. Cheerleaders should look their best at games:
A. Must be in uniform the day of game and at games.
1. Uniform means whatever the squad decides as a whole.
B. Jewelry, buttons, etc., are prohibited.
C. Nail polish and excessive make-up are not allowed. (Excessive to be defined by the coach)
D. Hair is to be tied away from the face and off the shoulders when in uniform or at practice.
3. Cheerleaders must change from their uniform in reasonable time after any game and before going to any social event.
4. Cleaned, complete uniforms must be turned in at the completion of the season. Awards will not be given out until such a time.
ATTENDANCE:
1. Practices and meetings
A. Attendance at all cheerleading activities is required.
B. A member may not have more than 3 unexcused absences from meetings and practices. The member may not accumulate more than 5 absences (excused or otherwise) for the entire season. Students with absences excess of 3 unexcused or 5 for the entire season will be dismissed from the squad. Each case will be evaluated on an individual basis by the coach.
C. Excused absences include:
1. Personal illness or accident
2. Funeral or death in the family
3. Special school activities which are approved in advance by the coach
D. In order to receive an excused absence from practice, a member must contact the coach in
person
E. Even when a practice is missed members are responsible for knowing all cheers, chants, stunts, dances, etc. They need to make it up on their own time.
2. Games/Performances
A. All members shall attend all assigned games. For football, the Varsity squad will be required to attend only the Varsity football games, and the Junior Varsity squad, only the Junior Varsity football games. For basketball, the Varsity squad will be required to be present at the Junior Varsity games and to sit in a group near the JV cheerleaders and participate in their cheers. The same will be required for the JV squad during the Varsity games. **The amount of support that the squad gives each other has a direct effect on how much the student body will support the cheerleaders!
B. All members shall attend the conference cheerleading competition and any other competitions the squad agrees to attend.
C. An unexcused absence from a game or the conference competition may result in dismissal from the squad. If a game or competition must be missed the cheerleader should notify the coach in a reasonable amount of time before the absence so the squad can have ample time to prepare.
D. Members are required to travel to any away game or other function with the rest of the squad on the bus provided by the school district. Only in cases of extenuating circumstances will any other transportation be allowed, and then only if the coach is informed before hand in person and in writing.
E. Cheerleaders must be ready to cheer at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. A warm-up time is essential to cheerleading, especially in colder weather. The member will sit out the amount of time that he/she is tardy to the game. If the cheerleader fails to arrive by half time, it will be considered an unexcused absence, and he/she will sit out the next game and/or as stated in item C above he/she may be dismissed from the squad.
3. Class Attendance
A. All members will be required to maintain good attendance in class as set forth by the Tri County Athletic Department and School District.
AMENDMETS:
The coach and/or Athletic Director reserves the right to adjust or add rules to this constitution that best suit the squad and Tri County High School at anytime necessary.
