1 This is known as the Counter-Rotation Defense. Right now the players are starting in their base defense, ready for the middle attack. The player in position 6 or back-middle shades slightly to one side of the middle block, depending on the approach of the middle hitter. |

2 This would be the positions of the defense if the hit is moved to the power or left side position. Notice the dark circles, these represent the weakness of the defense. |
