Summary of LSL activity.........Mother Brain

This is the inner neural fabric of the LSL mainframe. (or online journal, if you want to be a dick about it.)

February 24th, 2007-The olde archives. For all new info check out myspace.com/logicsystemlabs

January 26th, 2006- Early in the year, and already we're embarking on an adventurous new project. LSL Studios along with the Grand Raggidity Roller Grrls are working on a compilation featuring local bands and artists for an upcoming "roller" comp. Roller Skating, Roller Derby, you name it, if you think that you're up to the task of partaking in such endeavor, let me know. We would like to release this sometime around April 1st. (no joke) so e-mail me and let me know.
Also the band Mailboxes and the Blue Machine stopped by last weekend to record thier Greatest Hits volume 2 a nice 5 song introduction to thier off beat quirky sound. "The pop anti-pop" combining lots of harmonies and cool vocal structures with catchy rythyms, this e.p. has got me singing along already. A definite band to check out in the merging 2006 Grand Rapids music scene.

January 18th, 2006- Allright allright, a new year is upon us. The last year has been great in terms of networking and moving the local scene along, and it can only get better. The new studio is still being put together, and is coming along nicely. We are working out acoustic and cosmetic issues, as we apply the sound treatments, and trim. We have started recording and mixing bands for some upcoming rleases. The bands Kennedy Brain Matter, Mailboxes and the Blue Machine, the Divining Rods, and Rx TableTalk all plan on releasing new material in the next few months. Kennedy Brain Matter graced the studio with thier new guitarist and layed down 6 fresh new tracks for a February release. This will be the first cd in the joint Logic System Labs // GutterRat collaboration. The tracking went smoothly as the band tore through thier new set. Raw and in your face horror punk from beyond the grave. Rx Tabletalk is working on remixing his album for submition to the online netlabel The Inifiniti Sector. The sounds of the everpresent static around us is taking shape on this minimal electronic piece. Also coming up will be a comprehensive collection of the Divining Rods material. Long buried but definetly not forgotten this band will finally open the vault on these bluesy punk gems.
All in all, alot of the same momentum that carried us through the holidays the year before, and the year before that. 2006, will bring us together with more collaborations with the likes of Local Hype, Annex 22, Wicker Records, The Creative Peoples Network and Space vs. Time. We got the mo started so lets flesh out this beast.

November 15th, 2005- There has been a resurgence in the local electronic music community. This ellusive underground scene has begun to make appearances again in the local clubs. The artist known before as Radiofon has emerged with his blueprints for aural mastery. A new multi person collaborative "orchestra" in the works. Also, check out the Wicker Records site for more info about the local electronic flavor.
On the new studio front, the drywall is nearly completed, the windows are in, the studio foam is being applied, and acoustics tested. All in all, this ship is about ready to sail. Look for new recordings by the bands Kennedy Brain Matter, Devilution, Chip Fundy, eleMENT zer0 and possible reording of The Tony Schectman Orchestra, TSO.

October 24th, 2005- We've been doing alot of website work lately, trying to get the site updated from all of our projects we've worked on this summer. Check out some of the >Localhype/LSL pictures from the Live cd compilation, coming soon. We are just wrapping up the post production artwork, from local artists, and finalizing the packaging. Also, i've posted something that i forgot about. Pictures from all of the houseparty shows that happened this spring. Check them out here or through the artists link.

October 5th, 2005- New pages in the releases section are finally up. Some of the pages are just waiting for the cd artwork to be scanned in and thats all. Some new releases are in the works as well, such as the upcoming full length album from The Cosmic Eye and the full length compilations LSL-Live! from the basement featuring tracks by the bands that braved the chaos of thier fans and the never ending supply of alcohol that followed them there. This cd features cuts by; The Prom Queens, The Divining Rods, CockSnot, the Dead Alives, Oni Gossen, Devilution, the OffBeats, Catch Me If You Can, and Kennedy Brain Matter. Along with this comp, LSL is also wrapping up the LSL/LocalHype- Local Raccous Compilation featuring the bands; BreakNek, Devilution, Internalize, Theese Eyes that Bleed, the Dead Alives, Behind Lies Ruin, Thieves Cant, Victim Zero and others. Look for that in stores soon.

September 28th, 2005- We have been talking with the band Viral Mentality about recording thier debut full length album. The group combines a drummer, a seperate tom player, two guitarists, bass, and keys/synths/samples along with shared vocals. This large six piece is going to be fun to record. Grand Rapids has needed this sort of "hardcore" for a while.

September 23rd, 2005- New site info, coming soon, and long over do will be the band pages for the bands, The Bitters, Cosmic Eye, and Waiting For Dan. Along with the pages and info for all the Local Hype Shows including pics, links, and info for the bands involved. Thieves Cant, BreakNek, Internalize, Unlubricated Fist Fuck, Victim Zero, Devilution, the Dead Alives, Luke, Theese Eyes That Bleed, Behind Lies Ruin as well as MY Space Links and contact info.

September 7th, 2005-Recording wise, The Cosmic Eye has wrapped up thier full length album debut. A full 15 tracks later the jam-fest is complete. And none to soon, as the group launches into a myriad of shows these next two months, coming out strong, with gigs at Jukes, 10 Bells, Billy's Lounge and Radio Tavern.
Also hitting the stage again, is the ambiant master, Ambidextrious, AKA; The Fantastic Dizzy fresh from a spot of new recordings from his solo album, as well as new material for his two group projects, eleMENT zerO and Hidden Corner of My Mind is slated to make a guest performance with brothers in arms, Big ol' Britches and Wicker Basket. The three will be performing a few sets down in Indianappolis, on September the 10th around 6:30 pm. The show is at the Midwest Electronic Music Conference and is shaping up to be a blast. 4th Floor Productions and LSL Studios will be taking care of video and archival issues for the Dizzy One for possible future releases in our video division. Also be on the lookout for the new eleMENT zerO album Don't Move, We'll Come To You out now and in stores freshly following Indianappolis. More on this mind-trip of an album later. all i can say, is that you'll never know what hit you, even after we're done. (it's in your mind now......)

August 31st, 2005- How are things going in the local scene? Well, we've managed to keep busy here at LSL. The bands Cosmic Eye have stopped by a few times already recording and re-recording an entire albums worth of tracks 15+. The groups laid back rock/jam-band atmosphere, and tight rythyms flowed together nicely with the dream-like vocals. Well, who else has stopped in? You may ask? The old school punk band; The Bitters stopped in again to re-record and re-mix thier full length album. This group sounds tight and raw, yet might again appear for thier third incarnation, as they have added more guitar parts as well as a new bassist. Also, the mucho respected and sought afterDivining Rods and La Vulgara have been showing up on the club scene again. Theese two hard rock kick-ass bands delighted fans as they tore up the stages at Jukes and 10 Bells. Electronic wise, Glytch and Ambidexterous have been wrapping up the Element Zero Project and the Rx Tabletalk cd's as well. There seems to be another album or two coming from the long forgotten member of Null Set the one known from the past as Junkyard Shaman. His new stuff is a combination of electronic manipulations, mechanical failures (happy accidents), organic rythyms, and rap vocals. Sounds interesting.
As far as studio construction is going, we're just waiting now on a day to drywall, finish and floor. Alot of work, it seems, but should be a breeze with a little help. Hopefully this will be finished by the end of September. Joel, having had a new baby girl, Arianna Ophelia Howell on August 23rd, has cut into his time drastically. Happily though. All wishes for him and his family.
The LocalHype/LSL cd comp is almost complete. just waiting for art and duplication.
Hope this clears up a few things from the last entry, and as always, we'll try to update more frequently.

May 23rd, 2005- Well it's been quite a while since our last update. What's been going on you may ask? Well, we've thrown a few maore party's and rounded out are list for the live from LSLcd compilation. As well as finished another more professional compilation for LSL/LocalHype featuring the bands; Devilution, Breaknek, Thieves Cant, Internalize, the Dead Alives, Victim Zero, Theese Eyes that Bleed, Unlubricated Fist Fuck and Behind Lies Ruin. This compilation is slated for an August release of 2000, with everything coming from the local scene. art, music and production, so stay tuned. As of now, i can tell you the sound kicks ass, as did the crowd, so if you even attended one of these shows, chances are you might appear on the CD, in one form or another.
As far as studio work goes, we are in the process of relocating, and building a new studio from the ground up, well more of from the basement up. But that hasn't stopped us from squeezing in the bands, the Bitters, Waiting for Dan, Kennedy Brain Matter, and Never Mind the Air. Most of theese recordings took place in the old digs, so look for that signature sound.
The New LSL studios is currently walled out with a main controll room, a guitar room, a machine room/MIDI suite/library, and two isolation booths. Some more of the wiring/lighting and dry wall will take place in the next week or so, with beta sound testing hopefully by early next month. Followed by sound and acoustic treatments, and then full blown production. A very cool and relaxed environment to facilitate the growing needs of LSL, GutterRat Records, and LocalHype as well as the talented local music scene.

February 25th, 2005- Another update, and another party. LSL Music Showcase 5 went over very much as anticipated. (feb. 11th). The bands Cock Snot, the Dead Alives, Lake Success, Devilution, I Don't Mind The Air, and Oni Gossen showed up to play to the packed house (60-100) until about 5:30 in the morning. Just how did things go , well, I don't mind the air opened it up, and kept the mood light with the soft chords and dreamy atmospheres, enough to bring the noise with Cock Snot, and Lake Success, throwing down the punk and noise core. after a short break, Oni Gossen brought the melodic noisecore with violin and spastic vocal elements, pumping up the crowd for a nice shake down to the Dead Alives brand of rockibilly, horror. And finally, after all the alcohol was nearing consumption, Devilution tore through there 45 min set wrapping things up around 5 am. All in All another great show. Just judging from the $40 or so in returnable bottles, and another two bags of Whisky and Wine, I believe we enticed both the punks, and art-core scene very nicely.
Hot off the stage, LSL struck a deal to record I Don't Mind The Air for a forth coming release to be mixed by the Cocteau Twins. Also, LSL has partnered with Nightmare Drug Co. for the recordings of CockSnot, and the Dead Alives for future splits and the upcoming Gutter Rat Records compilation.
Now for a little more on Gutter Rat Records. Joel Howell has become partners with the Gutter Rat family. This new outlet is our profesional distribution arm, and we plan on doing things right. We have our street teams set up in K-Zoo, Cold Water and Battlecreek, as well as Grand Rapids and Muskegon. Gutter Rat plans on releasing its first album, a compilation of local music from the West Michigan area, and including the bands; The Whores of Babylon, La Vulgara, the Divining Rods, Kennedy Brain Matter, the Bitters, Devilution, Lake Success, Cock Snot, the Dead Alives, and a few more TBA. this is a major step forward in our scene, and it comes at a time when alot of us are utilizing each others talents to build a strong self supporting scene. We have taken over a few clubs and warehouses lately, and look at supplying the bands and fans with more outlets for creative music. We have a strong "Family" going on here, so if you here any of these names don't be afraid to lend a hand; .LSL Studios, Logic System Labs, Gutter Rat Records, Nightmare Drug Co., Loco Hype, PsychoBlab Magazine, and look for exciting new shows at 10 Bells, and the AfterMath. (1410, 28th st., behind Rent-a-Center).
Back in the Studio, LSL is finishing up tracks by; I Don't Mind the Air today, and starting on albums for Kennedy Brain Matter, and the Bitters next weekend. with CockSnot, Cat Time and the Dead Alives coming up mid March. Very busy, and yet still able to deliver the hottest compilation coming out of Grand Rapids in a long time. Look for it mid-late April, you surely won't want to miss the dual release parties. One up here in GR, and another down in K-Zoo. Each promising 8-10 bands and hours of noisy enjoyment. OK OK, thtas about enough for now, so keep in touch, i'll keep you posted.----Joel

February 8th, 2005- Many new updates and pictures, have been added to the site, so if you have a few minutes, poke around a little. LSL "dance" party 4 went over very well this weekend. The electronic groups from Wicker Records and Hidden Corner of my Mind showed up to lay down the beats. Draggin' Anchor's the irish/celtic folk filled in the rest with thier dancable ditties. Once again the basement was packed , this time with so many people that I couldn't even move at times. This just goes to show that our scene is happy, fun loving, growing conglomerate of music lovers all over Michigan. If you want to check out some more bands , stop in at LSL Music Showcase 5 , coming up on February 11th. Look for the bands Lake Success, Whores of Babylon, Kennedy Brain Matter, Fantastic Dizzy, and Devilution.

January 8th, 2005- LSL Music Showcase 3 went over very well. This time around we dealt with two bands out of Coldwater, MI. Gutter Rat Records artists, Kennedy Brain Matter and Catch Me If You Can played, as well as local GR heavy metal act Devilution,. We brought the adat in the basement and captured three sets of raw as fuck, in your face material, that will be included on future compilations. This was a great show, and a few more are planned before LSL has to pick up and move to thier new digs.

January 2nd, 2005- HAPPY NEW YEARS! Once again. This year as well as the last will be, and was great. Many new things are in the works for 2005. Internet Radio, a series of live recordings, many more new music videos, and new ventures with some upcoming music labels. All in all this has kept me very busy.
In the last month, We have also been working back at our roots, taking a break from the bands and recording experimental electronic manipulaions for the element Zero project and Rx Tabletalk.
Again we'll try to keep everyone updated more, and hope to see you all at the LSL Music Fest 3 on January 7th.

October 22nd- LSL back and kickin', it's been a while, (no land line again, curse MCI, and Ameritech both). And Anyway? The last month went over very well, with Devilution finishing up most of the tracking and mixing for thier up-coming demo. also worked on a few new tracks, as well as fattening up some previous material.
The Draggin' Anchor's have been doing well playing monthely 3 hour sets at the Black Rose. the Whores of Babylon as well as the other bands at the NO Bush, More Beer benefit went over very well. This was a new venue, open and operated by what looks like the band Ginger Fig. Overall, this was a great show, with Glorified Trash, and the Potatoe Baby's playing as well.
A very productive monthe here at LSL......also check out Joel's My Space Profile, and become one of our friends.

September 20th- Fresh off of thier LSL debut performance, Devilution layed down 4 tracks, for thier up coming demo cd. The group had already layed down 4 tracks, the Saturday following the party, but returned fresh, on Monday, to re-cut them. This proved to be much better, as we focused mainly on rytym gtr, and drums, combining forces in one of the largest drum sounds, I've ever recorded. I just hope there's enough sonic room to squeeze in thier insanely low bass guitars. Their drummer, John, uses drum triggers on all toms, and the kick, fed out to a 1700 watt PA. (insane!?) and so with the drum brain recorded direct, the toms mic'd and then the PA mic'd, well, you get the picture....simply huge, and well fitting for thier style of music.

September 17th- The second LSL houseparty went over without many complications. The groups, Devilution, The Whores of Babylon, and Lake Success tore up the basement. The Whores being the over-all crowd pleaser, drawing fans from all over the city. Many of the 70+ people in attendance enjoyed the broken glass drunk punk mayhem that ensued. If you didn't leave with at least a few scrapes, you must've sat at the bonfire all night. (which didn't really matter since you could hear the bands down the street anyway). Time constraints, and scheduling problems were to blame for the bands, Bad Guy, and Line Out not being able to perform, all were in attendance yet sadly we fell short.( i apologize to those affected) All in all, still a great night, and a great show of LSL talent.

September 8th- Paul and Aj stopped on from Loco Hype today, to talk shop about the future Grand Rapids music scene. All is going well, as Loco Hype is planning on streaming a 24 hour internet radio station. Much music was discussed as the vaults of the LSL library were opened. This is shaping up to be an exciting time in the GR Underground.
And on a slightly different note, Paul also picked up the rough mixes, from the Line Out recordings. The band wasn't happy with their performance, and are taking the tapes to review, revise, and ultimately re-record the album.

September 2nd- Once again the Whores of Babylon delivered. Laying down, quick to the point guitar riffs, erasing anyones doubt as to thier skills. Most of the album was completed today, with only two more tracks left to go.

September 1st- The Noisecore group, Lake Success stopped in to lay down thier 8 song cd. The group preceded to blast through their tracks with a great sense of skill and devotion. The main tracks, were finished in about three hours, with very little mixing left to be done. The group has a very distinct sound, with emphasis on sharp, quick tempo changes, and cut and snapped cymbals and drums. The 4 piece group is looking to release a split 10' record sometime in the near future.

August 27th- The whores are here! The Whores of Babylon that is. This sleazy thrash punk ensamble has been ripping across the Michigan landscape like a dull razor blade, leaving a trail of shock and scarred fans in it's wake. The group laid down an impressive eleven tracks, for thier forth-coming cd release. LSL plans on two of the sluttiest whores returning on Sept. 2nd, to finish up the tracking and mixing of guitar, vocals, and backup vocals, along with essential mixing and efx. as needed.
The group hails from Battlecreek, but soon will be known all around the mid west/ north east, and beyond.

August 25th- LSL saw the long awaited return of the project known only as......Extinct Weather Patterns. This musical adventure returns to the same minimal trip hop feel of the original. The only thing i can say about this reincarnation so far is that it's in it's formative stages again. (it's hard creating what once was extinct)

August 23rd-We have just been updating the web site lately, and right now we are compiling a large list of links of all of friends. We are going to try to have a dedicated site in the future to better connect us all. Right now this will work as a great prototype of a better forum to come.

August 19th- Today after much technical difficulty in the studio, we opted for a raw version recording of the band Line Out. These tracks, being stripped of the much celebrated multi miking technique, only utilized nine tracks, yet still came out very professional. The mics captured more of the "room" feel, and really, I believe shown more emphasis on thier musical and lyrical talent. The band, as stated earlier is made up of a few ex-members of I Don't Know Man? and if you've ever heard of the Dan Yell Reed's, other offerings, (LSL cd 13) it's alright to say that this is a fair comparison in style and lyrical creativity.
Also Paul drummer of Line Out and co-founder of Loco Hype has asked myself, Joel Howell to take care of the live recording for an upcoming Loco Hype cd compilation. This cd will contain tracks from 18 local bands recorded at local venues that Paul books for. The Radio Tavern, and Club North among others. We want to record 3 bands a night over 6 weeks, with one track apearing on the cd, per band, with possible other live band offerings with the other songs. Look for more information on this venture in the near future, because we are getting ready to stomp this scene!

August 17th-The studio was once again invaded by the ambient master Ambidextrous, this time however with the aid of Fantastic Dizzy and Glytch to lay down some downy soft electronic filling through the layers of sound that has become the eleMENT zeRo project. Progress was more than made, as 11 tracks were rounded out in this late night orgy of records, electronic manipulations and drugs. The final mixes, some comprising of the earlier eleMent zeRo material was promptly shipped off to the venerated producer of The Hidden Corner of My Mind the man known as the Big ol' Britches for remixing, as needed......The boys here at LSL are eagerly awaiting what this man and his new arsenal of electronic gagetry, and his G5 laptop will bring us......prepare to be served.

August 11th- the Virgin Mary's put on one hell of a show at the Innersection tonight, beating out the other four bands in attendence, to advance to the second round of the Battle of the Highschool bands. This was thier first appearence at the oft celebrated Grand Rapids club, and really blew the roof off, impressing the other soon to be rock stars and thier parents.

August 9th-The LSL Music showcase, this last Saturday went off without a hitch. The Bands La Vulgara, Bad Guy, Line Out, and the Virgin Mary's, played to the 50 odd people in attendence. The music sounded great, and the new basement space gave the fans room to rock out. If this trend continues, we will start booking at least two shows a month. But for now, just wait until the end of the month, for a special treat.
On another note, we began working with Paul, drummer, from the band Line Out. He along with, bassist; Gale. gtr/vocals; Nick. And gitarist; Dan Reed, of I Don't Know Man? fame. In addition to this great new band, Paul also runs Loco Hype and takes care of booking at the Radio Tavern, and Club North among others. So look for some bigger LSL, and Loco Hype productions in the near future.
And lastly, to finish up this update with some good news (as if everything above isn't enough already....) The Divining Rods Bill, mainly, have almost completed the art work for thier ep. Hopefully this will be able to be an early september release. This is good news for the many fans, since it might a while before the Rods play again.

July 30th-Last week, we finally finished up the tracking for Aestetecine (formerly Halo). We added the last few drum overdubs, and tracked some more vocals and sound effects. This group has been meticously adding part after part for the last few monthes to finally wrap this beast up. We will release a limited edition teaser, at thier show on the 14th of August, at the Radio.
This week also saw the last tracking sessions with the Virgin Maries they stopped in on the 27th, and 28th, to lay down five new songs. These songs are nearing completion in the mix stages as well. The band hopes to complete the album in the next month, and LSL will have the mixes done by next week. If you haven't heard of these guys, check them out on August 7th, at the LSL Music Fest 1 hosted here at the LSL compound, or on August 11th, at the Innersection.

July 18th-Their has been a flurry of web activity in the last few days, so if you haven't snooped around in a while, be sure to check out the basic pages for a few new bands, as well as the Draggin' Anchor's second ep, in the Releases page. And as always keep checking the Shows page, to see whose playing.

July 12th-The final mixes for the first 6 Virgin Maries songs were completed today. This Emo/Hardcore group has a laid back sort of in your face angst to it. The mixes turned out great , and the band is planning on returning in two weeks, so we'll see what else they have to offer.

July 9th-10th-La Vulgara has spent the last two days shooting with Duncan (more info and web info soon) for thier new music video. The video is for thier song I Go Bad. The boys spent the time at Reeds Lake in East GR, and from what we've seen so far, opens as a mini story, (Thriller-esque), and procedes with straight up 70's/80's rock antics. There might be smoke machines and crazy lights, but I'm not going to give it all away.
Also, the band La Vulgara is planning on returning to the studio for thier follow up album. The group already has 5 new completed songs, that they have been playing for almost a year now, along with a host of others. Hopefully they'll be able to schedule some time in the studio, as they are busy editing thier new video, practicing new songs, and preparing for the Heartside Festival, on July 17th.

July 7th-8th-The ambiant whiz kid, Ambidextrious shared these last two days with me, turning turntable trikery with the most minimal of beats. Songs were started , and are begining to tell the tale of his trips underground. These tracks were definitely a new twist on the electronic scene.

July 6th- The Whores of Babylon put on another great show, this time at Ten Bells. LSL got some more pictures to add to thier upcoming LSL band page, look for it soon. The group also played with the Grand Rapids hardcore legend's, Glorified Trash. Hopefully we'll be able to start recording with these two great bands soon.

July 3rd- Stacey's birthday party/ BBQ went over great. Not only was she impressed with the music, so were most of the sixty so odd people coming and going all night. The festivities started about dusk, shortly after everybody filled up with food and alcoholic refreshments. Then the Draggin' Anchor's started it out, playing to the bonfire crowd for over an hour, before the sky turned dark and menacing. Now, with the rain pouring down outside, the inside crowd was treated to Dj Zero and ex Divining Rods drummer, Ben Taylor, serving up a healthy dose of hip hop bop, with several different MC's. The night was closed out by the man in orange, Big ol' Britches, and a free for all jammed out performance by eleMENT zer0.

June 28th-Last week was a sad one for the LSL family, as it was for all of the Divining Rods adoring fans. The band, sadly, is no more, playing one hell of a closer, along with La Vulgara, to the crowd at the Radio Tavern. No need to fret however, as the band still plans to finish up thier recording. With 8 songs done so far, we plan on recording another 10 or 12. The band also has a live recording, the LSL FRidge Full of 40's party disk, where they tore up the old studio, as they did at most places they played at.
Don't fret however, Ben and Bill, (drums and gtr) have already been practicing for a new musical adventure, so stay tuned.
And on another note, the band formerly known as Halo, now Aesteticyne (spelling?) has began wrapping up thier new album, now with close to 12 songs nearing completion, this venture should be wrapped up for a mid summer release, as the band plays the Radio Tavern, battle of the bands, on August 14th. Thier guitarist Tony, is leading the charge by rallying his band to finally finsh what we began in December. In my opinion, the extra time spent was well worth it, as it allowed alot more experimentation, in sound and pressence.

June 19th- The East Town Bizare Bazaar was just the right place for Draggin' Anchor's to rock out. Even without thier drummer, Tucker, the band managed to kick out a full set, showcasing alot of thier newer tunes. The cd's of thier new stuff were widely excepted by the diverse crowd, as families and friends had a blast.

June 17th-18th- The local emo/hardcore band, The Virgin Maries stopped in for a two day recording session. We completed 6 songs for thier upcoming release. Their unique sound caught me by surprise, as I wasn't expecting the onslaught of the background vocals to be so heavy, compared to the laid back style of their main lyrics.

June 11th- The Divining Rods and La Vulgara have been playing quite a few shows recently, and as of late have been playing with The Whores of Babylon. We have been talking with the Whores, and look forward to recording and releasing thier album soon. There are a few other bands that we are also interested in working with, and should start recording soon as well. The Grand Rapids punk legends, Glorified Trash, The Virgin Mary's and the former members of Lead Lag. I'm very excited about all of this and look forward to working with all of these talented individuals.
Other than that, we have also put up alot of new pictures in the band pages, as well as some more info. Look for the Bad Guy band page coming soon.
And lastly another note on some recording, Draggin' Anchor's will be finishing up another batch of 6-10 songs to add to there previously recorded 10. Look forward to another e.p. of unreleased material at the East Town Bizzare Bazaar. And lastly the Divining Rods mixes have turned out great. Look forward to them hitting the studio again soon as well.

May 29th-Before thier show today, Jason and Nora, from the band The Divining Rods, paid a visit to the studio to finish up the vocals and backups for 8 of thier songs. 5 songs have been almost completely mixed, and the other 3 are going to be finished shortly. Possibly before thier show of all shows, coming up on the 10th. (the Divining Rods, La Vulgara, The Nasty's, and Whores of Babylon show at Kraftbrau.....p.s., hope you've got your drinking fists on.)

May 16th- Halo has completed all of thier drum tracks for a 12 song album to be released this summer. The group only needs to lay the guitars, vocals and keys for 7 more of the songs. Also the band Bad Guy has completed tracking for 4 of the 6 songs that they have been working on. After these mixes, the band plans on laying down another 6-10 tracks of material live. Later tonight we will complete some overdubs on the 10 songs that the Draggin' Anchor's have been working on. We are going to finish up thier album for a release date, June 19th- at East Towns Bizzare Bazaar.

May 9th- We have finally updated all of the band pages, as well as added alot more albums to the website. This process has been going smoothly, although it is time consuming since we are still editing in html format.
On another note, the bands here at LSL have been making amzing breakthroughs in performances, live and in the studio. We have released a few new albums, as well as having started on a few more. The La Vulgara full length cd is finally finished, and you should be able to pick it up at these fine retail outlets: Vertigo Music, RIT Music, Shuler Books, Radio Kilroy (kalamazoo), Barnes and Noble, Aris's Disk Shop, Cd Exchange, and at any of the venues that you see the band frequenting live. This is the start of a wide new audience bass for LSL as we are now going back through and releasing a few other albums that previous bands have recorded, and distributing them this way. All in All this has been a very productive couple of monthes.

April 22nd- It's been awhile, and since time is short, I'll just post a quick refresher, soon we'll have a completely new website, and alot of pictures and information on these following bands: the Divining Rods, Draggin' Anchor's, Halo, Bad Guy, eLeMENT ZerO, the Experience, and alot more information and a ton of pics for La Vulgara
No phone and no internet connection has slowed down our multi media capabilities, but being out of touch with people does has its advantages....as you can see, we've been doing a ton of recording and promoting. We released two cd's last month, the I GO BAD single, from La Vulgara, featuring like there last promotional songle, the rare original keyboard version of "pretty faces" and some live tracks. Also, at the cd release party at Kraftbrau Brewery we released Draggin' Anchor's self titled 6 song ep.
All and all, we've kept busy, and eventually you'll get the full scoop. Until then, don't forget to check out La Vulgara's long anticipated full length release, and release party concert, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, at Ten Bells.

January 6th- 4th Floor Productions has been updating the website using html like it always has. We have also however began using dreamweaver software, and have began coding on our new PC, so in the future there should be some more in depth pages, along with mp3's. However for now, we have updated the release page, and in the next week or so, some of the artists pages. Also since we have moved the studio, alot of new pictures of the layout, and of recent recording sessions should be available. We also will start a completely new pictures page (sort of like picture pages, with Bill Cosby, except without Mortimer Marker, unfortunately) featuring many more artists and all of our friends, shows and projects that we had the fortune of capturing in photos.

January 4th- This weekend LSL completed the mixes for the "Fridge Full of 40's" party disk. (LSL_cd_20) It contains 24 tracks from the bands and dj's that played and spun, and is a full 74 minutes long. This disk I believe captured the feel of that party very well, as you can here alot of the party goers shouting and singing to the songs along with the bands. We will professionally duplicate this cd as well as DanYell Reeds masterpiece, self titled, "I Don't Know Man?" (LSL_cd_13) We shopped around this weekend for some duplicating deals and are going to use theese cd's on a couple of different packages so as to better get a handle on whats out there.

December 17th-19th- Nate Murphy returned to Grand Rapids to finish up mixes of Mommy Won't Wake Up tracks. They selected a track to appear on an upcoming noise compilation, (the name of which i'll soon know). The track is entitled "the Hot New Bass Drum Sound in Rap". We'll know more as soon as he e-mails me the info.....otherwise the band is alive and kicking now in Chicago, more on that later as well.

December 15th- La Vulgara's first release, the "Tonight (is the night)" single recieved the editors choice pick for Best Local Album of 2003 as seen in the December issue of Music Revue. Good deal, good deal.

December 13th- Halo returned to complete some rough mixes of three out of the five songs. They added vocals and some more guitar and bass. The vocals and keyboards will be added to extensively. Right now however the rough mixes sounded well enough for the band to submit to the upcoming competition, "The Innersection"'s Battle of the Bands.

December 12th- Halo started work on thier future full length album today, recording the drums, guitar, keyboards and some bass, for five songs. This was the first time music was recorded in the new LSL studio set up, with some new mic's and pre amps as well. The new set up is basicallly a large main tracking and control room, with access to a few side rooms for isolation. So far we have multitracked all parts in the main room. This room sounds huge. It has hardwood floors and high ceilings and reverberates nicely.
On a side note, 4th Floor Productions has aquired the proper tool for internet manipulation. A microsoft PC. So starts the long task of updating and eventually overhauling this website through means that my MAC couldn't. So keep checking back for updates as the site will evolve little by little continously.

December 10th- Dan Reed completed the final art work for his bands album, self titled: I Don't Know Man". This cd should finally be released in January, once post production is completed. We plan on having this be the first cd released using outside duplicating facilities, recieving shrinked wrapped, jewel cased cd's. Also in January, look for La Vulgara's full length album, the Fridge full of 40's party disk, and a possible, maybe February release of Pat's Glorious Landfill of Sound.

December 6th- Today I finished about half of the "Fridge full of 40's" cd. The mixes sound loud, and clean, for Halo, raw, and in your face, for the Divining Rods and completely over the top, filthy fuck rock from La Vulgara. The cd might also contain some hidden gems, such as some of the free style sessions, and a surprise or two from Big ol' Britches.

November 1st-30th- Once again, this is the update for the entire month. LSL again was having compatability problems with the internet, but more importantly was also moving. This month marked the end of LSL at 5015 E. Beltline. Towards the end of November LSL threw the "Fridge full of Forty's" party the bands Halo, the Diving Rods, and La Vulgara played as well as DJ sets by Big ol' Britches and DJ Zero. Exactly how many 40's can you fit in a fridge? a: 72. The night was recorded to hard disk and will be broken down into a live disk to be released limitedly. This was also LSL's first recording of the Divining Rods. I think we captured the feel of thier live show pretty well. There was plenty of crowd noise and wackiness going on in the background as fireworks went off, and people socks'ed thier rocks off. This will surely be a fun disk to listen to, especially if you were one of the many people there.
---Much Love!!! goes out to everybody who graced the 5015 house over the years. There has been alot of great music recorded, as well as alot of great talent making it. The best musicians that I know. I had fun working with all of you and hope to be your friends long into our futures. Without your inspiration and persistance I've admired from all of you, I, We, wouldn't be where we are today. Thanks and all,
---'ight, peace hippies.

October 1st-31st- This is the update for the entire month of October. Computer problems again held up the update. The month started with LSL wrapping up the remastering of the Hidden Corner sessions. Aqua Skull had a good month as well, starting out with two consectutive weeks of free releases of thier album, at Morning Star coffee house. Recording wise, we started talking with the bands Lead Lag, and Halo about future audio recordings, and musical endeavors. We also decided to go with one professionally done cd compilation, featuring more of the new stuff as well as some things by Halo, and the Divining Rods which has yet to be recorded. This allows us to release a current selection of the LSL collective that is more representative for this time. (the end of 2003) The month ended with DJ Zero, and Big ol' Britches laying down the beats Halloween Night. This was a great party and a great end to October, cheers.

September 30th- LSL and La Vulgara have teemed up to spear head a local music collective. Our first agenda is to release two compilation disks. One being the LSL comp, as noted in the Projects page, emptying the vaults of the LSL archive, bringing alot of previously unreleased, and demo cd tracks to the mainstream the and the second being another disk featuring alot of the newer stuff we've been working on, as well as bringing in some fresh new talent from the local scene. Some possible bands in tow, may or may not include; Mommy Won't Wake Up, Coin, the Invisible Mansion, Superwow, La Vulgara, Halo, the Divining Rods, Lead Lag, Ren the Director, Misdemeanors, the Offbeats and a slew of untitled solo projects and collaborations between them. As always, we'll keep you posted. (we all will benefit more as a team)

September 28th- The first one to bring up the idea of the before metioned project, (see below) didn't disappoint, as Dj Zero showed up with decks, efx and a crate full of delicious vinyl. We also laid down some live bass and captured the continously evolving sounds of the outdoors for the first track Intuition. We experimented with the idea of some uptempo tracks and had fun stealing the soul off the side ways liqueriche pizza's.

September 27th- The studio once again doubled in size as the ongoing collaboration with Hidden Corner of My Mind took shape. Fantastic Dizzy, and the Big ol' Britches laid ground work for the yet to be titled project in progress. (This project is the second one started by these masterminds, not to be confused with The Dizzy Ones ambient and down-tempo work.) This musical endeavor is the ongoing dream of many talented artists, as a lot of our friends are planning on contributing, with tons of vocals, guitar, sax, violin, and drums along with an unruley assault from the vast collection of electronics and non convetional instruments. If even half of the people we've been talking to contribute half as much as they say, we'll have more then enough to impress even the greatest critics......if there will be critics at all.

September 24th- LSL has been working hard on the Mommy Won't Wake Up tracks. So far thier has been 8 mixes of the six songs, with another 4-6 tracks possible. This blend of harmonic terror is carefully sprinkled with a bit o' shiney, before being rung through the Maestro, or Condor. Keep your eyes, ears, and hands open for an upcoming release?

September 16th- 4th Floor Productions got word back today on thier registering of the site in a variety of search engines, increaing our web presence. A possible domain name is also in the works, as well as more mp3's and an increase in our bands presence through a host of free music sites. We'll keep you posted.

September 8th-La Vulgara finished work on thier limited edition cd teaser: Tonight (is the night) This 4 song limited cd single will be available to all adoring fans only at thier upcoming show on the 10th, at Ten Bells, on Alpine ave, NW Grand Rapids. This cd, (limited to 30 copies) is the promo for thier, still untitled, full album release. Tonight contains two studio tracks, along with a live version of thier Christmas Song, performed at Ten Bells in December, and the Keyboard instrumental version of Tonight (is the Night).

September 7th- The Fantastic Dizzy, and partner in crimeBig ol Britches caused all sorts of havoc with thier arsenal of Liquid Analog gear. Some new tracks were started with Glytch of Sub.Tech. fame. We have no idea where this album is going.....layers of short wave radios, minidisk, full analog assault, and where the hell did LSL hook up with that drunk, 12 year old rapper??? (known only as Skunk) Definitely a change from most psuedo-trance, and groove-box garbage that persists way to freely in the electronic genre.
Today we also continued to remaster the Britches previous works, Progress, and Tredechophobia. 4th Floor Productions will be handling the post production artwork, in collaboration with Hidden Corner of my Mind. So keep your ears open for these fresh takes on the old-school electronic front.

September 2nd- LSL has hooked back up with Hidden Corner of my Mind studios to remaster/rework, some of thier older projects for new LSL releases. These currently include the LMNt album, and Progress by Big ol' Britches. (some ideas include warming the tracks, and making them punchier, and raising some sample volumes) In addition to these remastered cd's, LSL electronic artist Glytch is also going to help in the production of the Britches newest electronic masterpiece, Tredechophobia. So look foward to some fresh old school electronic fun in the near future.

August 28th- Another Mommy Won't Wake Up recording date. This time however we recorded another 4 songs with a host of Mommy Won't Wake Uppers. In addition to the core members, Nate, Ted and Ken, they brought over thier friends Stevie, Stewie, James, and George. With another couple of guitars, amps and James and George's bag of tricks (air efx, air synth, and toy keyboards galore.) We proceeded to cut the basic tracks. Now with eight to ten tracks to edit, I'm sure this material won't disappoint. The group has been talking about making this a vynyl release on LSL. So yeah, Nate, if you get your Press up and going.... we'll see from there.

August 27th- The man known only as Fantastic Dizzy made a guest appearence in the Labs today laying down some new material from mini disk and records. We also dug through the LSL vault and pulled up some old Dizzy material. Now with three songs well on their way to being completed, is the Dizzy One going to finally drop his ambient album? (magic 8-ball's verdict: possibly maybe)

August 25th-26th- Today we began working with KeyKeyEyeKit recording the band Mommy Won't Wake Up. The guys showed up with old school analog keyboards, a panther organ, and an old as hell drum kit. (that sounds peachy) along with a collection of guitars, amps, and mics. We managed to get 4 tracks down so far, of thier improvisational jams. This is the groups warm up before more serious recording ahead. If you like experimental/noisecore, and even if you don't, this still is one band you deserve to check out.

August 24th- La Vulgara returned again after a trial run of thier yet to be titled cd, to put some more touches on this party punk masterpiece. They would like to remind you again to check them out at the Radio Tavern, on the 30th, for the ($1000 grand prize), battle of the bands.

August 22nd- 4th Floor Productions has been extensively editing this site, so explore again, there are a ton of changes in the works, coming soon will be some more band info from the artist's as well as mp3's, and cd ordering info. Until then if you have any questions on music e-mail Glytch908@aol.com

August 16th-Ashliegh, from Brent and Ashley's 2nd date project fame, gets married today. Sorry, Brent (boo hoo) no more second date projects in the future with her.

August 8th-Joel's daughter turns one year old today. Wish Lux Izabella a happy birthday today, ight.

August 6th- LSL Vintage Day!!! Today we recorded DanYell's guitar through vintage Mesa Boogie amps, old electro harmonix pedals and on to 2 track tape. It was incredibly lush sounding. A true 60's psychadelic wash. This was for some of the new songs he had decided were to go on the cd. Next comes the echo, and vintage delay's....dela...de..'s. Stay tuned.

August 2nd- La Vulgara took first place today in the qualifying round of Radio Tavern's battle o the bands competion. They go to the finals on August 30th. It's going to be one big party, so go get drunk and sing along. Remember, August 30th at Radio Tavern, on Bridge street, in downtown Grand Rapids.

July 30th- I Don't Know Man? started recording another couple of songs for thier upcoming release. The LSL song, and If My Long Now, laying down the bass and drums. Mr P.A.Trick Wieland just happened to be in the studio, with some vintage drums, none the less. We captured a huge 40's style sound, it sounded nice off the walls and wood floor.

July 7th- This week LSL wrapped up about 80% of the La Vulgara album. There was many drunken nights of studio wonder as the band drank and sung backups with thier friends. This album should be done durring the later part of July with final mastering and mixing in early August.

July 3rd- Today Sparkle Sparntz, and the Dirty DT came over to record some tracks for thier forthcoming cd. This cd will be the last limited edition Skel-a-tin album. Hopefully in the near future we plan on releasing the three limited edition skellaton cd's in a special gift box. For now however, you may pick them up from the website, and some local music shops. They'll be right next to the two main studio albums; Gingerbread Wulfman part 1: "the secret of the sparntz" and Gingerbread Wulfman prt deuce: "everyone loves zombies".

July 1st- The final mixes went out to Pat today for his approval. His album: Pat Wieland's Glorious Landfill of Sound. Is a brilliant emo/indie release, combining all sorts of musical styles, beatboxing, acoustic, and distorted punk mayhem blend nicely as the album glides from track to track.
And on another note, Mr. Dan Reed was present for his final mix of the I Don't Know Man? album. This project consisted of Pat, Dan and Adam. Dan took over the project after the band broke up, and has turned out an entire psychadelic listening experience. Stoner rock at it's best.

June 28th-30th- The last three days, Joel had the pleasure of recording local GR party punks, La Vulgara. This four piece came in and laid down a total of 13 tracks for thier forthcoming cd. We recorded all the basics and set future dates for thier overdubs. The band is creating an album that combines both the studio, and live elements as they plan on bringing thier friends over for chants and sing-alongs that are always present during thier live sets. The band has been playing for about a year now, headlining shows at 10 bells, and Kurly's Korner at least twice a month.

June 17th- I Don't Know Man basically finished up their first release from LSL today. (possiblely, LSL_cd_013) This was after a marathon of recording/overdubbing sessions begining in April. The "I don't Know Man" sessions include Pat Wieland, the one and only "Afro-Dan", and Adam. This three piece group's most noticable characteristics is that all members are, and do, play all different instruments in thier live shows. This cd was taken over later in the year by: Mr. Dan Reed, much in the same way Pat created his solo project: "the Glorious Landfill of Sound."

May 11th- LSL's post production branch 4th Floor Productions finished the cd artwork and production for the next batch of releases.
These include:
LSL cd 009- Sk3ll-a-ton: "everyone loves zombies"
LSL cd 010- Aquaskull: "god is gay"
LSL cd 011- skellatuhn: "sparkle pizza"
and LSL cd 012- skullaton: "worst cd ever"
The first two are slated for 100 to 500 1st run releases, while the next two limited edition skiz-ell-atin releases will probally see about a 50-100 limited run. All cd's will be available indefinetly through back order. However, if you want the originals, please act fast. (we know who our true fans are.)

May 3rd-10th- LSL began taking classes in TV production down at Grand Rapids Public TelevisionJoel and Brent attended these classes in order to explore new mediams in communication. Hopefully coming up in the near future, we'll be able to get some shows up and running. We're working on a possible local music show featuring the bands in the GR music scene, and the group Aquaskull, and EchoKnock are looking at a possible puppet show.
For GRTV info ....click here

May 8th and 9th- Skullaton recorded the infamously titled The Worst cd Ever today, and yesterday. This cd is thier forth release after Sparkle Pizza. When Sparkle and Money showed up and decided to play nearly everything in sight it really put our knowledge of acoustics to the test. This cd fetures everything loud, noisy, and childish. Whisky bottles, toy keyboards, and previously recorded VCR conversations, made this a night to remember.

May 5th- Pat Wieland has finished about 90% of his forthcoming album release; titled "the Glorious Landfill of Sound". We have completed all of the tracking, recording and overdubs for this one man band project, adding alot of last minute improvisation to the mix. The cd should be completed soon, when post production and all artwork is done, hopefully by the end of June.

May 1st- One Less Future has finished the mixes for thier forthcoming three cd set "Screw Your Illusions 1,2, and 3" Six live band tracks, and three acoustic sessions I believe will be used on thier CD's. To find out more....click here.

April 24th- Having recorded in the first weeks of April, and mixing these last couple of weeks, Arkum has finished it's 4 song promo album. The cd will eventually be legthened to include a possible six or more songs.
The band decided to take some time off to practice and play live more, and will be back to finish thier album soon.

April 20th- The post production work on the highly anticipated 2nd Skellatun cd (LSL 009) is nearing completion. It's inside comic will follow the story of the Gingerbread Wulfman, and his wacky adventures on the moon........... The post production of the Aquaskull cd (LSL 010)is also nearing completion..........both cd's already recorded, all thats left is the trim.

April 15th- The man known only as Wicker Basket, made a scheduled appointment to lay down some fresh new material, 3 songs for a possible 5-7 song release.

April 13th- The performance art group Echo Knock, recorded 2 new songs today, setting the groundwork for a possible 2nd LSL album.

April 4th- Hot off the presses from the newly created Wicker Basket studios or: (G.W.E.A.I.I.U) for short, comes Spakle Pizza This album went on to become LSL_cd_011, the 3rd cd in the skelatin catalog, and thier first limited edition release, as this cd isn't part of the "GBWM trilogy."

April 1st- Today we started tracking drums for the band Arkum. (If you haven't seen these guys, check them out. They combine thick guitar sounds, tight drums and intelligent lyrics, creating a eerie ambiance that rests above the current hard/metal trend.) We have been cutting tracks two days a week, and have so far completed four of the planned ten songs for their upcoming CD. The progress has been going smoothly, and the recording should be done by next month.

Feburary 15th- LSL started work on the forth coming One Less Future cd. The band is planning on a three part series show casing their changing sound, using these LSL recordings along with ealier stuff that their guitarist/singer Andy recorded.

Feburary 7th- Pat Wieland's Glorious Landfill of Sound project is going smoothly. This is the solo project from I Don't Know Man's drummer. We have been using the studio to its full advantage, recording some excelent vocal tracks in the shower, and stairwell. We estimate at this point that the cd is about 2/3 done, with 11 tracks so far. This project should be completed by late May. (at the latest)

January 20th- Sub.Tech. has begun the R_B_T R_P_ PR_JCT (robot rape project) So far there are 7 songs recorded, and the cd is about half done.
