We run a diverse studio, focusing on many different types of music. That sometimes makes it hard to come up with rigid guidelines for studio prices. However, we typically charge $200 for a 3 to 6 song demo.
....??not by the hour??..what kind of studio is this?..
DEMOS?
When we say 3-6 songs, that generally means 2-3 days tracking, 2 days mixing.6-12 hours a day. We care more about the music, then the price. We've found out that if your band has their stuff down, musically and mentally, that 3-6 days at $200 works fine. We also like to finish up all overdubs and things that we all missed later. I keep backups of all the music in case something comes up later that needs to be fixed.
ALBUMS?
You got a bigger project? An album? No problem, we'll just double it, or whatever's necessary, within reason. Spent 10 days- $400, and so on. I tend to work alot with the bands and they normally will finish the whole album for $400. The more the band cares about themselves and the more promotion they get, the better, it helps us all out in the long run.
LIVE?
LSL has recorded a number of live CD's at various venues across West Michigan. We will travel to where ever you are playing and record the entire show. 16 tracks along with sound board mixes, where applicable. We normally charge $100 for this, in the GR area. We have been finding out that this is a great way to record demos as well, as we get the full feeling for the groups sound as well as crowd feedback. Something that venues are looking for when they preview demos for booking your band.
Also LSL is begining to work with the Local Hype crew to produce a series of live recordings for an upcoming cd release, so be sure to keep in touch for that. We are planning on 18 songs at 6 different shows, with all professionel equipment, we'll be bringing the studio to you, and editing 16 tracks at a time. (alot of room for potential here) so bring some energy.
POST PRODUCTION?
We also have in house, short run duplication, (30 disks or less, using photoshop, and our CD Burners). But more importantly we have connections for more profesional service packages. These packages are extra, through FireHouse Music and would be negotiated then. It is about $300 generally for 100 profesional CD's. And this price about $500 for 200, and gets lower as you go up. But you probally have all this figured out already.
All in all
We figure that 400 for recording 300 for duplication, BamPow! You got yourselves a great sounding CD. Sit back and enjoy it, its your music.
Remember, we're also a collecive, and a record label. We're in need of many different services, and are involved with a lot of musicians. Gear trades, are always welcome, as well as tatoo artists trading tatoos for recording thier demos. There may be other ways you could help us out as well. We are trying to build the West Michigan Music Scene, one recording at a time.
