~Sometimes Love Is For A Moment, Sometimes Love Is For A Lifetime, Sometimes A Moment Is A Lifetime~

Jessica

Jessica Erin Davidson was born October 23,1995 at 9lb 2 oz...We knew right
away there was something not right, she didnt cry and the nurses ran
off with her without saying a word. My OB kept saying that she had a lot
of fluid and that they were taking her to the NICU to suction her, somehow
it just didnt feel right.

A few hrs later our Ped came in, he said he was sending
Jessica to Egleston ASAP,he had done an echo and that Jessica
had complete AV Canal and HRH. I had NO idea what he meant, I didnt
know what it was or anything.

Within a few hrs the team arrived to take Jessica to Egelston, I couldnt
go because of the epidural but I was released a few hrs later. When we
called later that evening I spoke with Dr Vincent in the CICU he explained
everything to me. She would need 3 surgeries and the pro's the con's.
The next day went down to Egelston she was doing so well that they had taken
her to the step down and were planning to take her to a room. That did follow
the next day, things stayed stable. She was doing well. Dr Kanter came by
told us about the surgeries she would need and that he would be doing the
first one the next morning. We agreed, Jessica went through fine spent about
a week in the hospital....and continued to make progress.

In Dec. 1995, she had stopped eating, and had a fever. She was
again admitted to Egelston for RSV. Jessica stopped breathing twice
during that time. But she pulled right on through. We prepared for our
second surgery the Glen when she was about 7 months old. She came
though that one with flying colors. She really did well again.

Our third surgery was the Fontan about 10 days before her 2nd birthday.
We didnt even stay a full week. She did so well. And had continued to do
well, with a few bumps along the way but nothing serious. On March 9, 2004
I took Jessica to the zoo. She fell down and started crying with her arm.
I brought her home, it wasnt swollen or anything just a little bruised but
I thought she would be fine.

On March 10 2004 that all changed. Jessica was watching TV and just fell
over on the floor. I grabed her up and I knew she had a stroke. I called the
ER at Egelston first then the EMS. She was airlifted. Jessica had
a stroke, the next morning they did a geo-ech and found many clots
and one very large clot behind her heart. She had been having very
mild strokes for a long time. There wasnt much they could do except
to give her clot busting drugs which come with risk. if they could take
care of the small clots then they could go in and remove the
large one with no problem. ON the 12 Jessica had a cardiac arrest
and her kidneys and liver started to fail. She was put on the kidney machine
but, continued to arrest.

In the early morining hours of the 13th Jessica continued to have strokes
and was brain dead... We asked them to stop all efforts and that was the
hardest decision I ever had to make. She went peacefully at 3:18
am on the 13th knowing how very very much that she was loved. Even the
physician who was attending her kissed her on the forehead and said
Jessica is now an Angel. He had just lost his son recently also...
Jessica lived everyday to the fullest always happy...She has
taught me a lot......
