Desprately
Chasing Baby
He looked like a seal
flopping across the stage to reach his trainer for cold, dead
fish. Using only his arms, Ezra 'crawled' towards the stereo
ready to put his mouth around the receiver's volume knob.
Like a goalie deflecting
a slap-shot towards the net, I'd redirect Ezra away from the
stereo only to find him torpedoing towards the CD rack eager
to stick the Best of Tony Bennette in his mouth.
Again, one of us would
cut him off from his target and he'd ricochet in some other seemingly
random direction, with a hell-bent twinkle in his eye, and his
drool filled mouth open like a baleen whale scooping up plankton.
I've thought about
legally changing his name to 'Ezra-No' as it seems that's all
I say to him. "Ezra, no. No, Ezra. Ezra, no, we don't eat
phones. Ezra, no" and so on.
Ezra's newfound mobility
lacked grace. But he made up for it with determination. No matter
what, something would go into his mouth.
Suddenly, Ezra coordinated
his legs with his arms. He had figured out how to use the clutch
and stick properly. Much to his own amusement, he went into third
gear.
Meanwhile, Ezra has
gained an insatiable love of books for which he sits relatively
still. We can't explain it save to say it's actually somewhat
strange. As soon as you're done reading one book, he immediately
wants the next one ready to go.
All this explosion
of energy has transpired since December, not long before the
last update to this website.
After a long evening
of chasing the kid from room to room, giving him his reading
fix, and wrangling him into his PJ's in a move which looks much
like a cowboy leaping off a horse to bind a bolting calf's legs,
I have been entirely too tired to work on this site into the
wee morning hours.
However, the masses
have spoken and they have said this site must be updated. People
from coast to coast have demanded fresh pictures of the kid because
they already know what he looked like at eight- weeks.
I've spent the last
several nights working on Ezra2002. So here you have it. Months
eight, nine, and ten in the life of the little reading rocket
named Ezra-No.
Enjoy,
Lem
