Virtue Unattended

Waiting at the bus stop, mind listless, cue stagnant
Her eyes fall upon a stranger, a welcome distraction
Offers himself as a taxi, charms her with his smile
She succumbs to his wit. Run away. She doesn’t even try

He takes her down paths she couldn’t even comprehend
Further away from the truth she recalls from way back when
When life made sense, when he hadn’t been around
From working towards heaven, she now spirals towards the ground

[Chorus]
You risk your heart, your everything as you fall in love
Hoping it will last for ever, wanting it to be perfect
You jeopardise your virtue if you fall speedily in lust
Never guaranteed how long it lasts before you crash and burn
Guard your integrity always, but let your heart go slowly

Giving into lusts long hidden, never known, now ruling their actions
Giving up on her eternal perspective for temporary satisfactions
One by one her previous standards come crashing down to their knees
Broken and forgotten, unable to thwart her decent, snapping like storm-bent trees

[Chorus]

He’s finished with her, her use’s evaporated, bored of her needs
Throws her back out to the street, found another victim for his greed
Her heart torn, integrity quashed, soul in desperate need of repair
Wishing she’d never listened to his lies, fallen for his alluring stare

Times goes by, she has become penitent, starting to heal
She meets someone new, shows her how to love and feel
Side by side they travel towards redemption, scars going
This time she gives her heart without her progression slowing

[Chorus]

Together, countenances shining for all to witness, spirits free
Knowing they will try their best, their love, not lust is real
Raising a family, working together for their goals, their virtue to serve
Turned her life around, the past nothing more than a painful learning curve

The lesson was hard, but learn it she did, she warns others to be aware
Of those who want to violate you, to degrade what you have which is rare
Those who take heed are spared guilt, that comes from learning the hard way
Can choose a different path that bypasses that strain of pain, able to love purely

[Chorus to fade]
