Last night I pulled an all nighter writing a paper on anadromous fish. Well, not quite. I slept maybe three hours. It is now nearly one in the morning and I am still up! So bear with me a little with this article.
I have come to the conclusion that this is an excellent fish album. For fish. It really has a nice rhythm and a decent melody. I could seriously envision some salmon undulating up a fish ladder or frantically trying to work their way up a swift-running river when I was listening to this cd. This was a really cool thing because it kept me on track for my paper! It also managed to blend into the background really well so I could concentrate on my paper. I think this cd would make nice background music for a nature show on salmon. I think the salmon would be happy if they did.
Well, if that wasn't descriptive enough, I guess I could go into some details. I bought this album a while back and really wasn't that impressed by it. I liked the opening song, Closing Time, all right but that was why I had bought the CD! I also liked a couple of the other tracks on the album all right but nothing really sprang out at me about any of it. I was a little disappointed that I had purchased it! Then I started listening to it. After a few more listens, I still wasn't that impressed but I liked it a little better than I had the first time. A few listens later, I actually began to enjoy the CD.
I like the feel of the album and the music. It is rather hard to describe the exact style of the music (for me at least:) ). It is most definitely rock music but it seems to be a combination of a few styles. Maybe something like a combination of Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel, ragtime (whatever that is) and digital elevator music. Maybe I need to get more sleep too! Every song on the album has its own distinct feel to it but the entire album has a good sense of cohesion about it. Overall a fairly nice laid back feel to the music. I would have a lot of trouble identifying an album that has the same general style about it. It is definitely a fairly unique sound.
So if you are an anadromous fish, get the mouse out of the water fast you are going to electrocute yourself! If spawning is your topic though, pick up this CD.
It is pretty good.
