Wondering in a record shop the label of Wheatus attracted me at one of those listening stations. I gave an ear and I was impressed! The music was full, rockin, and downright dirty, with rock rifts, changes in tempo, and lyrics both insightefull and even funny. I had heard Teenage dirtbag previously.I liked it but never went out of my way to get it. Well here it was a good song among an album full of great music.
Truffles got me both with it's musical drive and lyrical content."Think you're a bad a**,well I saw you outside eating truffles with your mom...
Sunshine comes in with tune that stays in your head and comes out at the least expected times. "There's a rockit I built,It's under my kilt it's coming to .... Teenage dirtbag is next and sounds so fresh. You have heard it I won't elaborate.
Next is "A little respect" A remake that stays true to the original. Not many vocalists can do this one right. The front man Brendan gets it just perfectly. After I listened to the rest of the cd I wondered why it was on it being everything else was original. I'm really not sure. I will say though that it is perfectly placed and perfectly recorded.
"WOW" is what comes to me after hearing "Hump'em n' Dump'em. This one will take you where you want to go.It has an incredible drive, full of action, yet recorded so cleanly you will never want it to end. I don't know who 'Leroy" is but it's evident somebody is enraptured with this soul. This is another of the CD's wonders that just grabs you and takes you away. You will be sitting on a train singing "Leroy is my MoJo man......."
Repetitive and catchy "Hey,Mr. Brown" shows more of the rock drive that permeates this album."Hey,Mr. Brown ,don't have a cow......on and on!
"Love is a mutt from Hell" had me thinking of relationships I have been in. some of the chorus lines are going to suprise you. They are some my personal best on the album. I won't repeat the lines here. You have to hear them for yourself. ending with "meal outta me"
Punk A** B**** is hard driving rock. A bit different than the rest but true to itself.Head bangers live on.
Where do you send a "Wannabe Gangstar" "you better go back to Commack" Let the song stay put. It is another of the playful word plays that keep you smiling and thinking at the same time. The music is slower and gets moody. It tells the story of many of our urban teens trying to be what they are not. When I put this albums pieces all together I rate it as an excellent selection in music, and feeling. I'm still humming and singing the tunes. They grag you and don't let go.
