Memoirs of Haunted Dreams

“Hello again my darling, it’s your mummy, and I’m here”
Those words soak into my dreams
She softly calls while deep asleep
Churning in my mind
Palpitate as I scream

Left holding myself
No one else who can
My mummy’s gone
Lost in the sea of souls
Numberless like sand
Now able to hold dear daddy’s hand

The earth owns her body
But her spirit has no cage
Flying immortal
Spiralling,
Bound for heaven
No longer restricted by age

I see her picture
Framed on my table
Eyes sparkling, peering out at me
Asking me why I cry at night
Her memory captured, frozen in time
Loving us her only crime
Why was it decided it was her time?

When her eyes catch mine as I pass
A dagger is thrust through my being
I grope for a way,
To see her shining face
Feel her warm embrace
Taste of her happiness
But I know she can not return
The hardest lesson I have to learn
