Life is a risk, full of exciting twists, and chances missed
We start off with blessed innocence and high hopes for the future
What happened to childhood?
Our eyes opened all too soon by the world
Thrust into the blackness, those youthful dreams eroded
One by one
Shadows of misfortune form over our enthusiasm
Weighed down by ours mistakes and opportunities we let slip
We try to teach the next generation how to live better than we did
To avoid our pitfalls, be happier, salvage their chance of a future
Thrown back in our faces like a muddy puddle
They will learn one day, all we can hope is it’s before the final curtain call
Misery loosens grip demoralising self-doubts hold
Like a Phoenix gently ascending from the ashes
We climb towards our steadfast aspirations
Old age comes all too soon, no regrets, we appreciate the bad with the good
Too late to rectify but soon enough to pacify those we love who watch us prepare to leave
This life, with all our flaws, made us what we are, moulded by its graces
The gift we had, unwrapped layer by layer, the joys discovered slowly
We stand at the gates of death unafraid, having learned all we required
To pass through ready to face the other side, our hearts and minds prepared
The serpent missed his chance, the Saviour won, taught us well
We step into peace, the veil lifted, knowing we did our best, we smile
