Invisible Barricade

You push through me as though I’m not there
Invisible barricade you do not want to see
Subconsciously aware of my presence, painfully aware of my existence
My words bouncing of your mind like water off a ducks back
I speak, you turn away, start a new conversation elsewhere
None of my words penetrate, yet when trouble strikes the one unseen is blamed
Framed as the culprit of giving bad counsel, when heed was not taken

I tried my best every time you needed me, I was there
Yet when I turned to you, I fell into nothingness, you ran
When I needed you the most, you weren’t there, I hate you for it
But I know the next time you need me, I’ll still be standing here
Ready for the using and abusing that is inevitable
I’m still here after being thrown aside so often
Cast down when something better came your way
But who else do you really have?

Please let the cloud rise, the fog clear, the barrier lift, and see me for the first time
If you don’t try soon, I might not be here when you get round to it
All I ever offered you was friendship, pure and unadulterated
All I got back was the status invisible barricade
Not friend, which was all I wanted
