Hey all its yer ol' pal warpangel!
Well, this is part the second of the Wheatus weekend I just had. After a fantastic show at Manchester on Friday, Saturday saw sonja, Edda and myself heading further north to Middlesbrough!
After oversleeping slightly I made my way over to Manchester to meet up with Sonja and her mom Edda. After stocking up on food n drink for the journey we spent the next couple of hours driving up to Middlesbrough.
Since it had been so very very very very cold the day before, I decided to take extra layers with me so that waiting outside wouldnt be so harsh. So we were very surprised to find the sun come out and it get very warm while we drove up! Bonus! It did get a little overcast as the day progressed, but it still was much warmer than the previous day.
Getting parked was an issue, I went to several car parking places before I found one with a space...or long term parking!
But anyway..we found our way to the venue. The town hall itself, and my!! what a building! It was like a cathedral almost, definately one of the oldest buildings Wheatus had ever played at. We all stopped off for a drink while we waited, and when we returned to the venue, we found Mopatop and her friend had turned up. Pretty soon the tour bus itself arrived and one by one the guys came out and into the venue.
Being in the middle of town, the guys arrival caused a stir with all the passing shoppers and kids and soon enough there were loads of people wanting to know what was going on. There was a huge crowd!
Soundcheck started and all frogs went inside, again there was quite a lot of frogs in for soundcheck. I chatted with Vanesa again and she helped me out with lyrics for Lemonade.
The soundcheck itself was a little slow, the guys had real problems getting the sound levels right and there was a humming noise which interfered with things for a while. However the guys made light of the situation and Brendan even changed the lyrics to Sunshine to 'We suck we suck we suck we suck so much......' etc. all very funny. After the soundcheck the guys came down to chat to everyone for a while.
Sonja, Edda and I hung around and chatted for a while, until it was time to take that oh so important spot at the front. Relish came on and went down very well with the crowd, after seeing them 5 times now I still enjoy their show, which is much more than I can say for the last tours support band 'Dirty Harry'.
Relish finished and then it was time for Wheatus before we knew it. The now familiar 'Rocky' intro started and the guys made their grand entrance to the stage!
Brendan once again in Kilt!
The guys put on a storming show for everyone. Jokes were flying between Phil and Brendan all night and it was a lot of fun to watch. The guys slightly change their setlist order every night and its interesting to see how the songs work next to each other. My highlight of each show of course is William McGovern as it is my favourite song, but there are so many hight points in the show to mention everything would mean a post much longer than even I could produce!!
The comedy highlight of the show was when Brendan actually had to stop, just before 'Lemonade' and tell everyone in the crowd that he was going to go and have a pee...but would be right back!! lol...so he left Phil with a microphone to describe what the song Lemonade was about....
...'Right..now I'M IN CHARGE!!!..Bwah hah ha ha.!!"
After a few minutes of Phil entertaining the crowd Brendan re emerged much more relieved and with a shot of Whiskey for Pete. Pete having asked him to get it just before he went seeing as he 'was going backstage anyway..'
The show continued and was a great success. When they returned to the stage for the encors Brendan dedicated 'Fairweather Friend' to me, which I thought was very cool of him as he knows its one of my favourites. Showing my appreciation I think I jumped along to that song higher than I ever had before! lol
Then it was time for the show finale...'dirtbag'! The crowd went nuts! During the section where BBB gets fans onstage, he picked out a girl in the middle of the hall who had dressed up in a nurses outfit to get onstage! Then he picked some frogs from the front. Sonja, Edda and myself were all picked to get up and shake our asses on stage and it was a lot of fun! Mopatop also got onstage, it was a great time for her as its her birthday today! (Happy Birthday!!!) But soon it was time for the show to end.
I got to meet Jess who came over to say hi after the show, it was great meeting her finally. She promised to buy a copy of the comic 'If I signed it for her' lol. Hope ya liked it Jess!
Sonja, Edda and I spent a little time with the guys, then everyone headed out to the bus and they spent time signing stuff, taking pics and hanging out with fans. We said our goodbyes to them all and then we headed back to the car and began what seemed like a very very very long journey back to Manchester.
After dropping Edda and Sonja back at their guesthouse, I drove home (getting lost on the way!) and fell into bed almost immediately! I had a great lie in and today its been a day of recovery after such a hectic weekend!
Roll on Leicester!!
Take care all
