Featherless Wings

You told me, you promised me,
That you’re in control of yourself
But you’re not, are you?
Owned by stilted emotions,
Afraid to feel
How can you be lifted up
On featherless wings?

You came crashing down that day,
Stumbling and somehow forgotten
Where were your friends,
When you needed them most?
Where did their loyalties lie?
Not with you, my precious,
But with their own ego’s
They trampled on your soul
Footprints deeply embedded
Still tender to the touch

Now left picking up the pieces,
Of your abandoned heart
Stick them together with love
Seal the deal with trust
Easier said than accomplished,
I know,
I’ve been where you are now,
Let me guide you on the journey

I’ll wipe off the dust,
And blow away the cobwebs,
That protect your innermost self,
The very key to your emotions
But I’ll handle them with care
Being careful not to hurt you

To see you smile again
Feel your warm embrace
I’d run any marathon
With a spring in my step,
Time on my side
I’d wrestle all your demons
Revel in the fight

But I can’t
It’s up to you
I can lead the way,
Yet you must walk the path
I can shield you with all that I am,
Help you add feathers to your wings,
One at a time
So that one day you can fly,
Higher than birds of prey
Scanning the horizon at the height of your victories
