Diesel Idle Speed Controller

Installation Instructions
There are six wires to attach for this controller. Colors in quotes are the colors of the wires on the controller. Be sure to disconnect both battery grounds before starting. Power (red wire) can be found from any location. Two wires (both purple) attach to the IVS, idle validation switch. These wire colors are red with orange and brown on the 94-97 model year engines. For 99 and 2000 model years, the colors are red with green and red with white. Two additional wires attach to the TPS, throttle position sensor. The signal wire (green wire) connects to the middle wire, grey with white stripe all model year engines. The ground wire (black wire) connects to the black with white stripe wire on the 94-97 and a yellow with white stripe wire on the 99 and 2000 models. This is the preferred splice for ground. If you wish to have some sort of safety switch, you can attach the ground wire (black wire) to the parking brake switch. This way, it will only work when the parking brake is on. Unfortunately, when the glow plugs shut off on very cold mornings, dialed in idle speed will increase slightly. Use only one method, and do not attach the black with white, or yellow with white, wire from the TPS to ground or any other wire. The tach wire (grey) is tricky to find. The color is white with a pink stripe. If you want to make sure you have the correct wire, you could take the dash apart and find the exact color of the wire plugging into the guage labeled "TACH". The easier way is to find the wire coming from the PCM connector. There are two PCM connectors, one inside the engine compartment {location, connector}, and the other behind the parking brake assembly {location, connector}. On the engine compartment connector, you want pin 50. For the interior connector, you want pin 25. On the 99 and 2000 models, there are three square connectors located on the engine side of the firewall. The top of the three connectors has a white with pink stripe wire. Email me and i can send you the installation sheet addendum.

2001 models have only one connector on the pedal that houses both the idle validation switch and the throttle position sensor. Attach the (black) to the yellow/white wire. (Green) goes to the grey/white wire. The (purple) wires attach to the red/yellow and red/green, either (purple) wire can attach to either of these wires.

You will also have to mount a switch and adjusting knob. Drill sizes are 1/4 inch for the switch and 9/32 or 5/16 inch for the adjustment knob. The switch should be mounted where it will not be accidentally bumped on when exiting the truck or other kinds of movement. The notch in the switch bushing is the ON position, mount this facing up.

Operating Instructions
This unit has been designed to work with the vehicle in the PARK position or, in case of a manual transmission, in NEUTRAL with the parking brake engaged.

Always turn your idle controller on or off with the adjustment knob in the fully COUNTERCLOCKWISE position.

The first half turn or so on the knob may not produce any effects on engine speed. This is normal due to the workings of throttle position sensor and vehicle to vehicle tolerances.

TO TURN ON, place the switch in the on position and rotate the knob clockwise until the desired engine speed is achieved.
TO TURN OFF, rotate the knob fully COUNTERCLOCKWISE and place the switch in the off position.
