This plant makes huge, pinkish purple flowers.
I purchased this plant in 1994 or 1995 from Intermountain Cactus, 1478 N. 750 East, Kaysville, UT 84037, (801) 546-2006. They have a good selection of outdoor cacti and succulents, and ship good-sized healthy plants.
This plant looks a little like the plant labelled as Echinocereus caespitosus var. purpureus pictured in Cacti of Texas and Neighboring States (Del Weniger, University of Austin Press, Austin, TX, 1991), but not quite like the same plant. That book puts the range of E. caespitosus var. purpureus in Oklahoma.
UPDATE March 25, 2001. This plant appears to be just fine.
