For the bigger Cheetahs we have strength training every Saturday afternoon at Holland Woods Middle School from 5:00-7:00pm.The atheletes use this as a means of getting ready for football, cross country & soccer in the fall.
Coach Rivers says this about strength training."I think that strength training is important for the atheletes. You read more and more of how the world class distance runners are now incorporating strength training into their workouts".
Mitchelblake says this about being a distance runner,"At first it really was hard because you're not in shape but after awhile it gets easier and easier to where you're 'The Beast!' The more you practice and run,the faster and better you will become!"
Ashley had this to say about running in this years City Hershey Youth Track & Field Meet,"I felt good to run the Hershey's because I like to run".(Ashley won her event this year in the girls 7-8 50 meter dash division. This event was added into the local city meet where the atheletes were too young to compete at the state level).
When asked how she felt about qualifying to go to the Hershey North American Finals, this is what Brooke said,"It felt really great and it was so worth the effort and it was fun. When the meet came and I was about to run I think I was a little nervous."(Brooke qualified to go to the Hershey North American Finals Youth Track & Field Meet by participating in the 9-10 girls 4x100 meter relay team as the 3rd leg of the relay. The girls placed 6th overall at the North American Finals).
We start each session off with a warmup lap, then we go into some stretching for about 30 minutes. We then run 1 mile and after our mile go into our circuit training. The sessions are geared aerobically and the atheletes love the workouts.
