Introduction

Within the past decade, genetic engineering has become a "hot" topic. Sheep have been cloned, new varieties of foods have been created, and the human genotype has been determined. Food crops are being created using gene manipulation. The food is being sold in stores throughout Europe and the United States. Consumers are concerned that there may be possible hazards by eating foods that have been genetically altered. Your task is to determine if there is any risk to humans by eating genetically altered foods. Your task is to investigate various internet resources as well as information in the school's information centers to gather data on the potential risks of consuming such foods or if consumption of genetically altered foods presents no risk. You will work in a group to find your answers and present a PowerPoint Presentation either promoting the use of genetically altered foods or warnings to avoid such products. There are no right or wrong answers at this time.
