Running Log

Monday, September 1st
So, I guess you can call this my new running log. I biked for 7.16 miles, felt alright out there. I did this just to get my legs warmed up for running. 20 minutes later or so, I ran 5.14 in 44:58. I felt blahish today, no real jump at all in my legs. Add in the fact that it was 60 deg. and rainy. 7.16 biking/4 = 1.79 miles + 5.14 miles running = 6.93 miles.

Tuesday, September 2nd
Today was the first after school practice. We did 1 easy to warmup, 2.57 at a tempo pace, and finally 1.15 to cooldown. I completed these in 7:42, 19:05, and 10:00 for a total time of 36:47 for 4.72 miles. At night, I did 14 minutes on the bike at 30 mph, so that was 7 miles. 7/4 = 1.75 miles + 4.72 miles = 6.47 miles, 13.4 this week.

Wednesday, September 3rd
We drove over to Patriot's Park today to preview the course for our time trial tomorrow. I ran with the freshman, Justin for the 5k course in around 26:40. It was a less than easy effort. Later on, I played ultimate at Edsel Ford HS for two hours. Using the Matt's Conversion For Playing Ultimate, it was an effort of about 8 miles. 3.1 miles + 8 miles = 11.1 miles, 24.5 this week.

Thursday, September 4th
Today was the time trial. I split 6:40, 13:25, 20:58 for 7th place. Thank God, it would have been awfully embarassing had I not made varsity. It was humid out, as I felt like passing out after. A few minutes later I was fine, though. Later on in the evening, I rode 8.92 on the bike. 2.23 miles + 3.11 miles + 1.5 miles (warmup & cooldown) = 6.84 miles, 31.34 this week.

Friday, September 5th Recovering from the time trial, I ran 4.72 at an easy pace. It took 38:06, just fast enough to beat the girls who were running somewhat fast. Some runners on my team decided it was a bad idea to recover from a race. Oh, the uninformed. 4.72 miles, 36.06 this week

Saturday, September 6th Felt sick, so no running at all. 0 miles, 36.06 this week.

Sunday, September 7th Still feeling a little under the weather, but I decided to tough it out, running 6.86 at an easyish pace. I say easyish because it would have been easy had I not been feeling like trash. Anyhow, I completed it in 58:52. 6.86 miles, 42.92 this week. I need to bump this up to 55 for the next 2-3 weeks if I plan on breaking 20 this year. I feel satisfied with the way I ran, the 20:58 was definitely a surprise.

Monday, September 8th
We went to the infamous Woodhaven hill today. Ran a mile warmup in 8:23, then ran 3 at a moderate/hard pace of 22:48. Normally, that’s not too quick, but I’m still not feeling well. We didn’t do a cooldown, so I took it upon myself to ride 5.28 on the bike and then run 2.72 on my own. 4 miles + 2.72 miles + 5.28/4 = 7.94 miles.

Tuesday, September 9th
I had to miss practice today due to my ortho appt., so I took it upon myself to run tonight. I ended up doing 8 at a moderate pace, which I'd consider between easy and tempo. Actually, I only did about 5 miles at that pace, then I cooled down. I think I am finally recovered from my sickness. 8.11 miles, 16.05 this week.

Wednesday, September 10th
Today was a relatively easy day at practice in preparation for our race tomorrow. We run at The Hole, a course I haven't traditionally run well at. About today's run we ran the triangle (3.45 miles) easy in 28:23. I came home, and went to Total Runner to buy some XC spikes. I bought the Nike Bowerman series ones. They feel alright on my feet. Around 6, I drove to Edsel Ford to play Ultimate for around an hour. 3.45 miles + 4 miles = 7.45 miles, 23.5 this week

Thursday, September 11th
Wow, it's hard to believe it's been two years. I can vividly remember my run from that night, too. Anyhow, today was our first race. I raced like crap. My time was 22:48, and I don't even remember my splits. With a 1.5 mile warmup and 1.5 mile cooldown, I ran 7.1 miles for the day. 7.1 for the day, 30.6 for the week.

Friday, September 12th
I don't remember much that happened Friday. All I know is that I ran 4.06 in 34:53, and felt terrible throughout the whole run. Oh yeah, and WE BEAT FORDSON!!! 4.06 for the day, 34.66 for the week.

Saturday, September 13th
We raced in the morning at Willow for the Huron Invitational. I love that course, and it's sad that it's my last time running there. I ran an alright race, 21:14. 6:34, 6:39, 8:01. I need it to work on my last mile as you can tell. Headed out right after my race to watch the 38-0 shellacking of Notre Dame. That made my day. 3-0, ranked #3!!!4.1 miles for the day, 38.76 for the week

Sunday, September 14
I attempted a long run today. I ended up with 9.05 in 88:00 or something. Slow, but at least I did it. 9.05 for the day, 47.81 for the week. I'll admit I didn't run as much as I wanted, thanks to the Thursday, Friday, Saturday stretch, but it was a noticeably higher workload than last week, or so it seemed.

Monday, September 15th
Since it was Monday, we ran the Woodhaven workout. I split 8:45 for my easy mile, then 22:12 for the 3.1 tempo. I'll admit I felt alot better than last week, and it felt closer to tempo. We didn't do a cooldown, so I rode 7.6 on my bike. 4.1 miles + 1.9 miles = 6 miles for the day

Tuesday, September 16th - Sunday, September 21st
6.2 miles, 11.45 miles, NO RUN, 3.45 miles, 5.1 miles, NO RUN. 32.2 miles for the week, and I ran terrible. Less than impressive. At best.

Monday, September 22nd
It was raining hard after school, so we just ran 2.64 hard and got out of there. I ran it in 18:44, which was alright. I wanted to run at night, but just laid around and played NCAA 2004. 2.64 miles.

Tuesday, September 23rd
Today we had a half day at school. After school, we ran 4.12 at a moderate pace, which I covered in 33:00. When am I going to start feeling good on runs? Dave and played 21 after. He beat me 2 games to 1. I had the 3rd game won, but he tipped me. Dave, A-Lo, MIB, and I went to Hooters for lunch. At night I ran 5.21 on my own. Saw two people getting arrested. 9.33 for the day, 11.97 for the week.

Wednesday, September 24th - Friday September 26th
3.45 easy, 3.1 race & 3.5 warmup and cooldown, 2.64 easy. 12.69 all together, 24.66 for the week.

Saturday, September 25th
Raced today at the Grosse Ile Invitational. They changed the course around from before, you start on the west end of the park, instead of by the river. The course went through the woods twice, but it was still quite fast. I liked it alot. I ran a pretty solid race. Went out and moved up in the 1st mile as usual, my split was 6:36, which felt right. The 2nd mile I maintained my position, and I was gaining on the runners in front of me, my split was 13:20. The last mile, I passed the guy front of me with about 800 to go and tried to put some distance on him, but he got me at the finish. Regardless, I still finished in 21:03 and in 11th in the JV race, which earned me a medal. 5.1 for the day, 29.76 for the week.

Sunday, September 28th
Planned day off. 0 miles, 29.76 for the week. This was not a good week of training, but I made up for it with a good race on Saturday. Hopefully with these two weeks of minimal racing, I can put some more miles in and do a good workout on the 4th.

Monday, September 29th
I unexpectedly took the day off because they drew way too much blood at the doctors than the should have. Usually, they fill 4 of those tubes, but today they filled 8 or 10. I sat around all day and ate as much as I could because I do not weigh enough. What a great problem to have! 0 miles.

Tuesday, September 30th
Today felt like the first day of fall. It happened to be approximately 50 degrees and windy as hell. We ran 4.72 at a medium pace, but it was more like 2 at a medium pace, then the rest easy because the wind picked up as we ran down Southfield. I ended up running it in 37:04. 4.73 miles.

Wednesday, October 1st
We ran a fartlek today. We did 2.15 at medium pace to warmup, which I competed in 16:09, then we did 2.15 of fartleks, which I finished in 15:53. At 6:30 or so, I went and played ultimate for an hour. It was cold. I still did manage to catch a few good passes. I need some soccer cleats for next season. 8.3 miles, 12.03 for the week.

Thursday, October 2nd
We ended up doing 3.77 easy because Friday (today) is another hard day. It was verrry easy, I might add. We ended up getting stopped by a train. I'm really pissed right now because I got in trouble for playing a harmless 8 bit video game (NES) in computers. 3.77 miles for the day, 15.80 for the week

Friday, October 3rd
Today, we planned on running 6 miles. It was supposed to be 1 easy, 4 hard, 1 easy. Well, I ended up running 1 easy, 1 hard, then the rest medium because I got stopped at a traffic light and would have had to play catch up the rest of the run. Instead, I just ran with Dane at a comfortable, but fast pace. When we got back to the school, Burkey was irate for two reasons. 1)People running easy on the easy part and 2)People stopping where he said to stop. Anyway, he made us run a mile on the track, where I wanted to hit 6:40, and I hit 6:41. Pretty good pacing, eh? 7.13 miles for the day, 22.93 for the week.

Saturday, October 4th
Ran about 3.5 verrry slow, then I picked it up for a mile before I finished. Don't really know why I did that. Sorta dumb. Oh well. 4.57 miles for the day, 27.5 for the week.

Sunday, October 26th
Well, my season didn't turn out as well as I wanted it too. I ran a 20:59 in the league meet, and regained a spot on varsity. Yesterday, however, I ran 21:50 something. How dissappointing. Well, now I get to resume my training on November 3rd. I will actually update this, believe it or not.

Monday, November 3rd
Today, I resumed my training. I ran for 3.28 miles, and I completed that 30:10. Wow, that's slow compared to a couple of weeks ago, but that's to be expected with the 8 days I took off. I also didn't feel too good today because I got 3-4 hours of sleep last night. A nap from 4-5:30 certainly helped, but the lack of sleep drained my energy reserve. 3.28 miles.

Tuesday, November 4th
Today was a little bit better than yesterday. I had a bit more pop in my legs, but still not a normal amount. I managed to run 3.96 in 35:04. I had to take a crap the whole run though, so it wasn't too much fun though. I played some basketball earlier in the day, that probably wore me out a bit. 3.96 miles, 7.24 for the week.

Wednesday, November 5th
I did my first "speedwork" today. I warmed up for 2.2 miles. Then I did 2 sets of 2*50m with 2 minutes between reps and 8 minutes between sets. It's supposed to build up your basic speed. Believe me, I need to do that. After all that, I did a 2.2 mile cooldown. 4.4 miles, 11.44 for the week.

Thursday, November 6th
I had my first good run since returning today. I actually felt good the whole way! Anyway, I ran 4.11 in 35:27, all at once, except for a minor break for where I had to tie my shoe. I must go now because I just saw Matrix Revolutions and it's 12:30. 4.11 miles, 15.55 for the week.

Thursday, November 13th
Drrrrrr! Curse getting sick. I was sick from Friday - Wednesday, so that's why I took all this time off. I hate being sick for obvious reasons. Anyway, I ran 2.2 in 19:35. It felt like a 10 mile tempo, I swear. I hate this starting up again stuff. 2.2 miles.

Friday, November 14th
This run felt alright. I ran down Quandt to Leslie to Manor to Moore to Park and back home. It ended up being 2.78 miles, and I actually didn't feel like I was going all out. I ran it in 24:31. I can't wait to be in shape. 2.78 miles, 4.98 for the week.

Saturday, November 15th
I ran terrible today. I don't know why, maybe because of that nose bleed last night, I don't know. It wasn't even that bad out, 40 and a drizzle. I'm pissed to say the least. I shouldn't be though, it's my 3rd day back. I didn't do good on November 5th (which was my 3rd day back that time), maybe it's a trend. Anyhow, I ran 3.33 in a time I will not mention. 3.33 miles, 8.31 for the week.

Sunday, November 16th
Once again, terrible. 3.34 miles, 11.65 for the week. I'm not happy at all, but then again I was sick and lost alot of fitness probably from that. Hopefully I'm well enough to start Week 1 again.

Monday, November 17th
Ah, finally an enjoyable run. I ran 3.62 in 31:45. Sure it's slow, but at least it felt good. 3.62 miles.

Tuesday, November 18th
This has to be the slowest run ever, 35:55 for 4 miles. Maybe because I ran at 10:15. Yeah, that had something to do with it. 4 miles, 7.62 for the week.

Wednesday, November 19th
Today, I decided to do the identical workout that I did two weeks ago. The first 2.2 went alright, I started off slow and gradually picked it up to finish in 18:38. After that, I did 2*4*100m strides. 30 sec. rest between strides and 5 min. rest between sets. I didn't do the 2.2 to cooldown because my mom came home right when I was about to start, and we discussed the car situation. 2.7 miles, 10.32 for the week.

Thursday, November 20th
I really can’t remember this run at all. I think I ran around 4 in 35:?? Anyhow, it was craptacular, as you can tell. 4 miles, 14.32 for the week.

Friday, November 21st
I had very little time to fit in this run, maybe 40 minutes, so I ran the Short Midway Route (Park, Midway, Quandt). I used this is a progression run, the first 1.5, I ran easy to a moderate pace, the last 1.5, it became moderate to hard. For the 3.05, I ran a 25:09, which I was pretty satisfied with. 3.05 miles, 17.37 for the week

Saturday, November 22nd
NO RUN. I was going to run, but I took a nap until around 9, then it was too late. 0 miles.

Sunday, November 23rd
This by far was my best run of the week. Maybe I’m finally turning the corner on my training. I’m kinda sad, this is the last warm day for running in 4-5 months, the last day for a t shirt and shorts. Yeah, I ran 4.73 in 39:48. I really expected it to be more like 4.6, but I surprised myself when measuring it. Yay! 4.73 miles, 22.1 for the week. Overall, I’m not too happy about my running. Yes it’s early, but I should recover more quickly. Perhaps the last two runs will vault me into faster state of training.

Monday, November 24th - Sunday, November 30th
4.8, 4.8, 3.4, 6.2, 5.1, 3.3, NO RUN. Not counting the missed day, I was partially satisfied with this week. The first two runs didn't go well, then the last three went well. The Turkey Trot was alright considering that my first 5k was in 30:00, but I came back in 25:40 without much of an effort. I could have broke 52 easily I believe. 27.6 miles.
