TEAM CAPTAIN

Captain - Rich Blundell

Detroit Cobras Opening Day!

It was a big “Opening Day” at the Cobras Den yesterday. We had the whole park rockin. It was a Standing Room only crowd in Detroit to greet their 2008 Detroit Cobras Baseball Team. Hillary Clinton threw out the first pitch. Catching the first pitch was Mike Huckabee. Which the crowd chanted HUCK, HUCK, HUCK. We had all the big names standing around home plate when she did this. The Governor was here. Soupy Sales, The Mayor of Detroit was here. The Stealth made a pass over while the National Anthem was being sung by the one and only Little Stevie Wonder. It was a great start of a new Season in Detroit Cobras Baseball.

Now if the Cobras could get off to a good start. The Opening Day Pitcher was Phillip Chamberlain against the Providence King Cats. With butterflies in his stomach Phillip went all 9 Innings giving up just 4 Hits and striking out 4. His whole Family came to the Ball Park to see him pitch and Chamberlain never let them down for a second. When the Cobras got the final out of the Game they all rushed the mound and carried Phillip Chamberlain off the mound as if they just won the World Series. This group of players are really a tight nit group. All for one, and one for all. There is three new names in the Line-Up this season. Baliboa, Kassidy, and Sittler. Phillip Chamberlain also won the “Player of the Game” Award.

For the first Sim of the new Season Detroit went 7 and 3 and is in first place a half of a game over Bridgeport and Toronto. With their Magic Number being 153. It’s still early in the season but this Team looks a lot better then last years Team was.

The Battle Cry this season for the Cobras is “That’s one down, now lets win on tomorrow”.

That’s all for Opening Day in Detroit.

Detroit Cobras Offseason News!

Coming off a 60 and 102 Record in the 2007 Season the Detroit Cobras have made a huge impact in the 2008 Season so far. For the 2008 Season you’ll see some new faces in Training Camp.

Picking up Free Agents Catcher Mike Chiang from Detroit, Relief Pitcher Nathan McGathy from Bridgeport, First Basemen Heather Cavanaugh from Area 51, and Relief Pitcher York Hawk from Orange County the Cobras showed their Fans they were going to spend money to build a great Team in Detroit. They may not be done yet with offers still on the table to a couple more Free Agents. Trade Offers are still be talked over with a couple of Teams.

In the first Draft of the 2008 Season Detroit picked up Catcher/Third Basemen Derrick Cameron and Second Basemen/Shortstop Terrill Roberts.

Last season Chiang in 144 Games hit .222 playing for Orange County and Detroit. Relief Pitcher Nathan McGathy pitched in 23 Games and had a Record of 1 Win, 4 Loses, with an ERA of 2.70 for the World Series Champions the Bridgeport Buccaneers. Relief Pitcher York Hawk came over from the mighty Orange County Crush. In 45 Games he had a record of 3 Wins, 5 Losses, and 3 Saves with an ERA of 4.74. First Basemen Heather Cavanaugh came over from Area 51 in 67 Games Heather hit .276 with 2 Home Runs and 13 Runs Batted In playing in Single A.

With some new faces around the Clubhouse this season look for the Cobras to be a better Team. After Spring Training this Season you may see 5 or 6 New Faces on Opening Day for the Cobras.
