About Trail's Edge Camp Trail's Edge Camp is a summer camp for children with special medical needs: campers have tracheostomies or need ventilator assistance. They typically are thought to be too "medically fragile" to go to camp because of the specific care they require. Trail's Edge campers generally between the ages of 2-19 are given a unique opportunity to experience the joy of the great outdoors.

When and Where Camp dates vary from year to year. Counselors arrive Saturday for orientation and campers arrive Sunday. After a full week of camp activities, we all end the experience together. Trail's Edge Camp is held each year at Camp Fowler in Mayville, Michigan, located approximately 30 miles north of Lapeer, Michigan.

This camp is funded by contributions from various foundations. There is absolutely NO cost to the camper. Camp is run by volunteers, and we are always in need of more volunteers. If you would like the chance to "make a difference" in a medically fragile childs life, please contact us at Mary's e-mail address below

Trail's Edge Camp is an ambitious accomplishment of caring. Counselors are health care professionals. They are at camp as friends first. They also are there to monitor and provide medical necessities. 95% of our counselors are nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech pathologists, child life specialists and physicians. Each camper will have a partner who will provide primary care round-the-clock. Each cabin will have a cabin leader and a health staff member who will monitor their camperAs well-being. Within safe boundaries, Trail's Edge campers are free to direct their own summer camp experience. Trail's Edge Camp offers a chance to have all the fun of a typical overnight summer camp, independent of family. Campers do so with counselors who are qualified to provide the technological and medical assistance needed. Activities are orchestrated to campers' abilities, to let them safely try and succeed at new endeavors.

At Trail's Edge Camp, no one is different and no one has to sit on the sidelines. Not only does camp become a normal life experience; camp is a place where it is typical to have a trach, a vent or something of the like. We let kids be kids. It's a chance for them to have fun and experience the wonder and beauty of nature. Trail's Edge Camp is full of adventure; full of friendship; full of independence; full of life.
