Flint Youth Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jamal
Duncan, is the premier wind orchestra at the Flint School
of Performing Arts. This group was formed over 20 years ago by
Paul Torre, who is now the President of the Flint Institute of Music.
The Wind Ensemble has performed several local concerts each year, and for the
last 10 years under "The Maestro", Jim Lee, has traveled extensively around
the mid-west performing in a different major city each year. This
group is made up of intermediate to advanced 7th through 12th grade students who
meet each Monday evening during the school year for 2-1/2 hours of
rehearsal.
The Flint Youth Wind Ensemble shares the spotlight with it's sister groups,
The Flint Youth Symphony, which just celebrated it's 55th year, and the
The Flint Youth Jazz Ensemble.
