CIRCUIT BREAKERS INFO

Circuit Breakers' BoxCircuit Breakers is one of the miniature racers for the Playstation. Basically it involves racing around crazy circuits trying to stay on the track and win.

The 1 player mode is fine. Here you have to race against 7 other computer controlled racers over 3 laps and if you win you get another circuit until you have 32 in total. In addition there is a time trial mode and some secret bonuses, but it's the multi player game that is so addictive.

Here up to 4 people compete on even more crazy circuits trying to knock each other out, the last one remaining gets points. However it's the means by which you win that matters. There are bonuses scattered around the track, See Here. Also many tracks have no barriers which means you can force others off, which is particularly satisfying at high height. A Time Trial mode is also included in Multi player which is also nice. If you are going to like this game I suggest getting a Multi-tap so 4 friends can play.

There are some pretty impressive lighting and graphical effects too. For example if you spin on oil during a night race your head lights spin with the car, in underwater races the screen gently wobbles to give the impression of being under the sea. Although it may not seem it there is also skill needed to win races- on snow tracks your car slips and slides around so corners must be taken gently where as on tarmac your car is almot glued to the road and corners can be taken flat out. It's this gradual progression from a simple oval to slippery gorges and tortorous hairpins that makes the 1 player mode so successful.

32 tracks are included in Multi-player for you to race on and these go over the same territory as the 1 player races do-

Tarmac Racing

Each location almost has character aswell as some weird characteristics. the Jungle track has a conveyer belt and the snowy tracks have the most torturous hairpins you've ever seen.

So what are it's bad points? Well it doesn't support 8 player even though not many of us have the equipment for that anyway, and it's just too similar to Micro Machines for some however these moaners should read this-

CIRCUIT BREAKERS IS THE SEQUEL TO SUPERSONIC RACERS WHICH CAME OUT 9 MONTHS BEFORE MICRO MACHINES

The soundtrack is excellent, possibly one of the best in a game and thanks to some clever programming there are no loading times. The graphics are better than that of Micro Machines and the gameplay is arguably better too. Each car is also similar to proper vehicles- a mini, a 70's F1 car, a lambourghini and one thats looks like a bow-tie. If you want to break up friendships and prove you're the best-- GET THIS!!!!! This is one of my favourite games and I recommend you buy one very quickly especially as it is available for the bargain price of £20.
