The 911 Project

Just recently, I talked my dad into buying a 1967 Porsche 911 . I am a huge Porsche fan, and I had been researching early 911s for a while, and I thought this would be a great restoration project. Below you will find pictures of the car, and news on how the restoration is coming along.

These pictures above were taken in my garage after a thourough cleaning, the day we got the car.

This picture is of what the car looked like before it was taken into our garage so we could work on it.... I was commisioned to "un-earth" the vehicle, and probably lost a few hundred pounds in sweat that day.

2-12-2001 New stuff: This weekend my uncle, dad, and I dropped the engine out of the back sucessfully (haha, no fatalities as expected thank God.) Once the engine was out, we did a quick compression test, and from the results, the valves are working properly and it seems our 911 should be running perfectly. Upon further inspection, however, we noticed a few electrical mistakes here and there, and there, and there in our car's wiring set up. Looks like the last time the car was restored, the restorer was fully enjoying the pleasures of an alcoholic beverage, or forgot that you must follow a strict wiring diagram for the car to operate. Looks like we've got some electrical work ahead!

STAY TUNED...

5-13-01 Today was Mother's Day, and we got the 911 running! What more could my mother ask for?

It wasn't posted, but some time last month we re-installed the engine and did all the connections, so today we finished it up and did some electrical work. It was an amazing experience hearing that aircooled flat six rumble to life for the first time in a long while. It was up and running like a champ within a few minutes, so my dad decided to take it out for a quick test drive. I watched as he and my older brother exited the driveway, giving a nice spin from the tires before hitting the street. A quick accelleration down the road, and then they were back. My dad said he had the thing up to 80 mph before the end of the block! I didn't get a ride down the road in it, though, because one of the tires soon afterward went flat. This car's coming along, so stay tuned.....
