Last Will & Testament
of John E. Coghnut

In the name of God, Amen.

I, John E. COGHNUT, of the Town of Johnstown, County of Montgomery and State of New York, being weak in body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding (blessed be God for the same) do this twenty-fourth Day of February in the Year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and eight, make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, imprimis. I do hereby give and bequeath and devise unto my loving wife, Elizabeth all my household furniture during her natural life and after her decease to my daughters, Mary Magdalen WERT, Peggy MOORE & Elizabeth CURRIE. Secondly, I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughters the sum of seven hudnred and fifty dollars each, to be paid out of my ready cash and my outstanding monies. Thirdly, I give, devise and bequeath unto my said three daughters, to their heirs and assigns forever each twenty five acres of land out of lot number five hundred and eighty in the western allotment of Kingsborough patent, excepting out of the Southwest corner of said twenty five acres of land. Fourthly, I give devise and bequeath unto my son Daniel twenty-five acres of land and to him to his heirs and assigns forever out of the Southwest corner of the lot mentioned in the third clause. Fifthly, I give devise and bequeath unto my son Daniel and his heirs and assigns forever all my other real estate and lands not before given, devised and bequeathed (except a lot of land leased and possessed by Abijah ENOS. Sixthly, I give, devise and bequeath unto my wife during her natural life the rent and reversion of the said land leased to the said Abijah ENOS with power for her in her lifetime to dispose, devise, bequeath and convey to all or any of my children the said rent and reversion. Seventhly, I do herby give, devise and bequeath unto my son Daniel, my horses, sleighs, harnesses, farming utensils, all the hides, skins and leathers in my tannery. Eightly, I do give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife all the residue and overplus of the personal property and money not herein before given, devised and bequeathed to her or my children or any of hem, all which gifts, devises and bequests to my said wife is expressly to be understood to be in heir of her dower and thirds upon my estate both real and personal. Ninthly, I do give, devise and bequeath unto my said wife so much and many apples, plumbs that will be growing on my said farm as she may want for her own use. Tenthly, I do hereby order and direct my son Daniel to find such bread for my said wife & as much as she may want for her own use & to find as much grain as she may want for fattening pork for her own use & find her such necessaries and attendance as will and may be wanted & is suitable for her when sick, lame or infirm. Eleventhly, I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said wife privilege to live and reside in my dwelling house in which I now reside for and during her natural life. And lastly, I do hereby appoint my brother John L. COGHNUT and my trusty friend, Henry YANNEY the elder my Executors to this my last Will and Testament, hereby directing, requiring them when it pleases the Almighty to summon me from this world, to buy my body in a decent and Christian like manner. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and seal, the day and year, first above mentioned.
