"War Hero Honored - Heroism durin the Aisne-Marne offensive in 1918 has been recognized by the United States War Department with an Award of the 'silver star for gallantry' to Leo F. Covey, Detroit attorney. Covey received word of the citatrion this week, and immediately deprecated his heroism. The official War Department citation sets forth that in spite of wounds, 'Second Lieut. Covey of the 102nd Infantry, 32nd Division, refused to be carried to the rear but continued to command his platoon when the ground around him was covered with killed and wounded.' Covey lives at 885 East Grand Boulevard. His comment: 'It really wasn't much of a wound.' He was one of four A.E.F. veterans in the United States to receive the silver star citation this week."
