Ludwig was born in Katharinental, Russia, March 17, 1874, the son of Anton and Mariana (Schmidt) Doll. He married Mary Eva Lantz. They came to the United States, arriving in New York on or about March 21, 1903 on the ship, "The Krown Prince The Groza". They settled in Fallon, North Dakota and lived there until 1920 when he moved his family to Marblehead, Wisconsin where he was employed by the Western Lime & Cement Company. He retired in 1934 and moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  He died August 12, 1951.

     Ludwig Doll was born March 17, 1874 in Katharinental, Beresan District, Russia. He was the sixth of eleven children born to Anton Doll and Mariana  Schmidt Doll. He had 4 sisters, Josephine, Elizabeth, Maria Eva, and Katherine. His six brothers were, George, Anton, Fred, Frank, Peter and Jacob.
     According to his Petition for Naturalization, Ludwig Doll arrived in New York on or about March 21, 1903 on the vessel, The Krown Prince The Groza. We do not know for sure yet which family members arrived with him. His father, Anton, states on his petition that he arrived in New York on or about March 17, 1903 on the vessel, Krown Prinze Wilhelm but our initial correspondence with the National Archives indicates that they located Anton and Ludwig together. This is one mystery we are hoping to solve.*
     Once we receive confirmation on the ship's passenger list, we may be able to find out more about Grandpa and Grandma's trip to America. Joanne Ferber relates that Grandma talked with her concerning the voyage and said the ship was very crowded and scary. Because they were only allowed to bring such a small amount of belongings, they dressed in layers.
  In the book, "Morton Prairie Roots" Ludwig Doll is shown as living in Township 135, Range 82. One of our next projects is to find out if he ever filed homestead papers on this land and if so to obtain copies of those papers.

*NOTE from Steven R. Lusk:  According to an E-mail from Judy Hegner, (David Hegner (dbhegner@earthlink.net)), received on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 11:15 PM, Anton Doll arrived with Ludwig, Maria Eva and their son Joseph on the Kronprinz Wilhelm on 15 Apr 1903.  The mystery seems to be solved with neither date above being correct.

Ludwig A. Doll, Retired Plant Employee, Dead

     Ludwig A. Doll, 77, a retired plant employee, died early Sunday at his home, 410 Washington Street, after a short illness.
     The son of Anton and Katherine Doll, he was born in Russia, March 17, 1874, and came to this country in 1902. He lived in North Dakota until 1920 when he moved to Marblehead, where he was employed by the Western Lime and Cement Company. He retired 17 years ago and moved to this city.
      Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Eva Lanz, to whom he was married May 31, 1899; 11 children, Joseph, City, Gregor, Menomonee Falls, Mrs Catherine Eggers, City, John, City, Mrs. Rose Fisher of Campbellsport, Jacob, Reno, Nev., Mrs Marion Del Ponte, Knowles, Mrs Magdalen Roethke,  Minneapolis, MN, Mrs Francis Johnson, Sussex, Anthony, Milwaukee, and Linus, City.
     Also surviving are 32 grandchildren; a great-grandchild and four brothers, Peter, Fred and Anthony of Mandan, North Dakota and Jacob of Garner, IA.  Mr Doll was a member of St Mary's Church and of the Holy Name Society.
     The body of Mr. Doll will lie in state at the Zacherl funeral Home after 2 p.m., Tuesday. Funeral services will be held there Thursday at 8:30 a.m and at St Mary's Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The eighth child of Ludwig and Mary Eva Lantz Doll is John G. Doll. John was born June 14, 1910 in North Dakota. During World War II he served with the 5th Army in Italy. He was in the Army until approximately 1945.  He never married. John lived with his parents until after his mother went into the nursing home. He then moved into an upstairs apartment next door to his sister, Cathryn Eggers and was a big help to her.
     John loved to fish and everyone remembers him making wonderful music on the accordion. He also had a large garden of which he was very proud. He was a cement finisher in the construction business. John died January 25, 1984 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and is buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph Doll was the third child and first son born to Ludwig Doll and Mary Lantz Doll. He was born in Russia, July 25, 1902. Some family members believe he was born aboard the ship coming to America but our research does not support this, since he was born in 1902 and the family did not arrive in America until 1903. Also on the Petition for Naturalization for Ludwig Doll, dated June 25, 1909, it states that Joseph was born in Karsona, Russia.
Joseph married Rose Lade in Campbellsport, Wisconsin on September 4, 1923. Rose was the daughter of August Lade and Anna Vandergrinten Lade. Rose was born March 07, 1904.They had one daughter, Ruth Josephine Doll. Ruth states that there was a stillborn son born after her but as yet we have not verified this. She further stated that it was the first C-section performed at St Agnes Hospital and that the child would have been named Joseph, after his father.
Joseph was a farmer and worked a turret lathe. His daughter, Ruth, recalls living in various places as a child because her father, like many, lost everything in the depression and they would move wherever her father could find work. They lived in Kewaskum, Eden, Marblehead, and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Joseph died in Fond du lac, Wisconsin in 1979, and Rose died in West Allis, WI in 1998. Both of them had their bodies donated to medical science.

Gregor Louis Doll was the fourth child and second son born to Ludwig and Mary Doll. He was the first child born in America and was born June 18, 1904 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. He was sixteen when his parents moved their family to Wisconsin in 1920.
Gregor married Helen Magdalen Wagner on June 17th 1929. They spent their honeymoon taking Gregor's mother to visit relatives in North Dakota. Together they had 6 children.  Twins, Gregory and Ralph, June, Kenneth, Loren, and Eugene.  One of the twins, Gregory, died shortly after birth. Gregor was a carpenter by trade and built the house his family was raised in. The house is still in the family today, owned by his grandson, Jim Kohl. Gregor died March 17, 1952 due to complications of diabetes. Helen died October 11, 1993. Both are buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

The 1910 Census lists Christopher Doll as the 1st son fo Louie and Mary Doll born in America at abt. 1904.  This matches Gregor's information, but he's not listed.  Then in the 1920 Census, Gregory is shown as the 2nd son of Ludwig and Mary Doll, matching Gregor's known information.  Therefore, we can probably conclude that Gregor's name initially was Christopher and then it was changed to Gregor after 1910.

Helen Wagner was born August 9, 1909 in Richfield, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Wolf) Wagner. She was baptized on August 22, 1909 at St Boniface Church in Goldendale, Wisconsin by Father Joseph H. Wurm. Sponsors were Heney Baumgartner and Magdalen Hermes. Helen had 2 sisters, Frances and Agnes, and two brothers, Alfred and Norman.
     On June 17, 1929, Helen married Gregor Louis Doll the son of Ludwig and Mary Eva (Lanz) Doll at St Boniface Catholic Church, Goldendale, Wisconsin. Witnesses were Joseph Fellenz and Rose Doll.
     Six children were born to Helen and Gregor; twins, Gregory and Ralph, June, Kenneth, Loren and Eugene. Gregory died at birth.
     Gregor passed away and is buried at St. Mary's cemetery, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
     Helen married John Conrad Kohl on January 3, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin by Father Eschweiler. Witnesses were June Doll and Robert Kohl. The marriage ended in divorce December 28, 1959.
     She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and crocheted numerous afghans. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
       Helen died at Menomonee Falls Health Care Center on October 11, 1993 and is buried at St. Mary's cemetery, Menomonee Falls.

Gregory was the second of twin sons born to Gregor and Helen (Wagner) Doll on August 4, 1930. He was born at home in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. According to his death certificate, Gregory lived for half a day and died of convulsions at  8:36pm on August 4, 1930. His birth certificate in Washington County lists his name as Gregor Joseph Doll, but his death certificate, also in Washington county, lists his name as infant, Gregory Doll, Jr. According to the Sacramental Church Records of Holy Cross Church in Kewaskum, he was buried there on August 6, 1930. So far we have been unable to locate a grave.

The sixth child and the third daughter of Ludwig and Mary Eva Lantz Doll is Cathryn Stasia Doll. She was born 29 July 1907 in North Dakota and attended school there until about the third grade. She was about 12 years old when she moved to Wisconsin with her family in 1920. She married Earl John Eggers on April 17, 1928 at St Mary's Church in Eden, WI.  Earl was born May 17, 1906 in Empire, WI. Earl had a twin brother, Elmer, and their parents are Lawrence Eggers and Catherine Schmitz Eggers. Earl and Cathryn had three children; Arlene Cathryn Eggers born August 24, 1930; Shirley Mae Eggers born  June 10, 1932, and Larry John Eggers born September 03, 1941.
     Earl was a station operator for the Wisconsin Power and Light Company from 1929 until his death. Cathryn was a homemaker. They were members of St Patrick's Church in Fond du Lac, WI.
     Earl died February 22, 1967 and Cathryn died April 29, 1996 at Hope Nursing home in Fond du Lac, WI. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, WI.
     Cathryn did housework for a Jewish family for several years, and also worked in the laundry at the Hotel Retlaw in Fond du Lac. After her marriage Cathryn became a full time homemaker and mother. In the fifties Cathryn started keeping data on her family, which is where much of the information for our family history started. She loved to do needlepoint, crocheting, gardening and sewing. She made most of the girl's clothes when they were young. After her husbands death she worked on many different crafts. Cathryn was in the nursing home for almost 4 ½ years prior to her death.

The ninth child of Ludwig Doll and Mary Eva Lantz Doll is Rose Cyrilla Doll. She was born January 28, 1912 in Flasher, North Dakota. Rose married Edward William Ferber on June 19, 1934 in the Fond du Lac, WI. Edward was born July 28, 1909 in Fond du Lac, WI. He is the son of Edward Charles Ferber and Alma Kleinke Ferber. He was a carpenter and mason.
     Rose and Edward had three children, Donna, Joanne and Edward. Aunt Rose is especially remembered for her wonderful baked goods. Rose died October 10, 1978 in West Bend and Ed died December 20, 1989 also in West Bend. They are both buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Kewaskum.

     Mrs Edward (Rose) Ferber,  66, of Route 2, Campbellsport, died Tuesday October 10, 1978 at Samaritan Home, West Bend, where she resided for 2 months.
     She was born January 28, at Timmer, North Dakota., the daughter of the late Ludwig and Mary Eva Lanz Doll. She was married to Edward W. Ferber in Fond du Lac on June 17, 1934.
     The couple resided in the town of auburn since 1950. Mrs Ferber was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Kewaskum.
     Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs Leroy (Donna) Dier* of Kewaskum and Mrs James (Joanne) Kieckhafer of West Bend; a son, Edward of Adell; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
     Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, John and Linus Doll and Cathryn Eggers all of Fond du Lac, Joseph Doll of Campbellsport, Anthony of Milwaukee, Jacob of Nevada, Mrs Marian Del Ponte of Knowles, Mrs Edward Roethke of Minneapolis, MN and Mrs Myron Johnson of Sussex. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Miller's Funeral Home, Kewaskum and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Kewaskum. The Rev. John T. Budde will officiate and burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Kewaskum.
     Visitation for Mrs Ferber will be after 4 p.m. thursday at the funeral home.

The tenth child of Ludwig and Mary Eva Lantz Doll is Jacob Joseph Doll born May 27, 1913 in North Dakota. Jake changed the spelling of his last name to Dahl. He was a painter and carpenter. He lived much of his adult life in Reno, Nevada. Jake was married four times.
     Jake's first marriage was to Dora Theda "Noni" Sartori. The exact date is unknown. Jake and Dora had two children, Kathryn Mary Dahl was stillborn on August 06, 1939, and Charlotte Renee Dahl born January 09, 1943 in Fond du Lac, WI.  The marriage ended in divorce. It is believed that Charlotte married a man by the name of Hinman, first name unknown. We have no further information on her.
     Jake's second marriage was to a girl named Jacqueline. This date is also unknown. Jackie's maiden name may have been McConnell. She had a son Dana Morse Dahl born March 8, 1948, whom Jake adopted. The marriage ended in divorce.
     His third marriage was to Laudene Davis on November 05, 1959 in Carson City, NV. She was born January 30, 1931 in Waldren, AR, the daughter of Ambrose H. Davis and Sophia Leora Brooks Davis. They had three children, Kathy, Gregory, and Randy. The marriage ended in divorce.
     Jake's fourth marriage was to Linda Samms. Jake and Linda had a daughter Nancy Dahl, who was mentally retarded.  It is believed that Linda may have placed Nancy in a home after Jake's death but this has not been confirmed and no other information is known about her at this time.

The eleventh child and the sixth daughter of Ludwig A Doll and Mary Eva Lantz was Marian Regina Doll. She was born on July 7, 1915 in Fallon North Dakota.  She married Peter Del Ponte on November 16, 1939 in Fond du Lac, WI. He was the son of John Battiste Del Ponte (8-12-1881 Italy)(12-3-1960 Dodge County, and Appolonia Dalle Norage Del Ponte (4-17-1884 Codene Italy)(7-24-1962 Fond du Lac).
     Marian was raised in Marblehead and later moved to Fond du Lac with her family. As a young lady she did house cleaning and worked at St Agnes Hospital. After her marriage she moved to Knowles, Wisconsin where she and her husband ran a general store.  They purchased the store on a land contract in 1943.  After her husband's death she ran the store, and was the acting postmaster for several years. Marian was a member of the Christian Women of St. Andrew's Parish for many years.  She was known for her sewing ability, cooking, baking and general craftiness. Up until the time that Marian went into the nursing home, she handmade a present for every child, spouse, and grandchild. One year she made each child a replica of their home down to the tiniest detail, including shrubbery, storage sheds or pools. Marian loved to joke and really enjoyed life, the Doll girls sure did like to clown around. Marian and Peter had 8 children, Wayne, Denis, Dale, Carol, Lee, Timothy, Sally and Alan and 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Peter died November 23, 1967. Marian died February 21, 1997 in Fond du Lac. Both are buried in St Andrew's Cemetery, Leroy, WI.

     The fourteenth child and sixth son of Ludwig Doll and Mary Lantz Doll is Anthony Ludwig Doll. Tony was born February 28, 1923 in the Township of Auburn in Fond du Lac County, WI. Tony married Janet Leah Duel on November 18, 1944 in Fond du Lac, WI. Janet is the daughter of Myrton Duel and Matie Tidyman Duel. She was born March 27, 1925. Tony and Janet had five children, Judy, Mary, Shirley, David & Karen. The second child, Mary Kathleen Doll, was born April 9, 1948 and died at birth.
     Tony was not able to join the military because of a heart murmur, so he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). This is where he learned to cook and bake. Among other things, he made wonderful fudge. The family lived in Milwaukee for a number of years.  Tony's occupation was that of a welder and Janet is a registered nurse with a BS from Alverno College. While living in Milwaukee,Tony was active in the Redemption Lutheran Church Choir and a member of it's School Board for several years. According to their daughter Karen, Tony & Janet moved from Wisconsin to Colorado in the winter of 1978-1979. Daughter Judy recalls that after moving to Colorado Tony and  Janet became the co-owner and landlord of several single and multiple family income properties.
     Tony's hobbies were flying pigeons, bowling, small game hunting and fishing. He also played the accordion and harmonica by ear.
     Tony died March 17, 1993 in Pueblo, West, CO. Janet later married Dennis Chandler. She lives in Pueblo West, CO. Tony and Janet's third child, Shirley, is also deceased.

Carolea Doll

Carolea Doll, nee Heaney, 67, of West Bend died on Friday, April 14, 2006 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk, following a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1939 in Hew Hampton, Iowa to the late Fredrick L. and Mary E. (nee Carlin) Heaney.
Following her marriage in 1959, she settled in Menomonee Falls where she raised her family. She later moved to Rice Lake.
In the mid 1980s, Carolea moved to Las Vegas and then lived in San Diego.
She returned to Las Vegas in the mid 1990s, moving to West Bend in January 2006 to be closer to her family.
In addition to being a mother, Carolea worked at and also owned a supper club, a bar and grill and later a motel.
Most recently, she was employed as a mortgage specialist, retiring in July 2005 due to her illness.
Survivors include four children, Pamela (Ronald) Voeltner of West Bend, Gregory (Constance) of Greenfield, Jennifer Rich of Rice Lake and Bradley of Rice Lake; five grandchildren, Bryan, Matthew, Michael, Adam and Kimberly; three sisters and a brother, Marilou (John) Mueller of Menomonee Falls, Sandra Pokorny of San Antonio, Texas, Gary Heaney of Galesville and Sonya (John) Hendrickson of New Berlin; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Paula.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, with Rev. Doug Olson officiating.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Thursday from 5 until 6:30 p.m.
