The Spirit's Lament

I want a moonlit beauty with a looking-glass heart

Silvery step and voice of a lark

Complexion of stars, all fire and ice

Not half as tender, nor half so wise

As the shimmering sea that enfolds the pale light

With day into twilight and that into night

Light-feathered sky floating above me

Oh to find someone trustworthy to love me!

Sleek and wistful, with hair made of dew

Patient and graceful, with a heart that is true

My eyes speak of rapture, my body of pain

My heart has felt sadness I cannot explain

But I know this to be with the one I hold dear

You never were further, yet never so near

Come close, with a secret to the one I adore

You are all that I stand for, and with you I am more

Than this body you see. afloat in the sky

I come down to earth, to kiss you good-bye
