Sandalwood

Dunes passing and forgotten

I leave footprints in the sand

Windy tide in my hair

Bound by lush seaweed

Voice of the seagull

Haunting, mournful I call for you

Drowning in the sea

Salt and snow upon my lips

Half-open in prayer

Spread my legs into the water

Close my eyes and dream of you

Tossed in the waves apart

Eyes sparkle in the sun

Grey, overcaste my heart

Lift onto your soft shores

Pull onto your rowboat

I rise and sink with the tide

Searching for seashells

Hoping for pearls

Finding only oysters

I return to land

Sandalwood inside me

Resting in my heart
