Our summers at Silver Lake Mi. sand dunes

Welcome to the sand dunes at Silver Lake. Silver Lake is located on Lake Michigan .The sand dunes are a great place to spend your weekend rather it be riding your sandrail, dunebuggy, motorcycle, quad, four wheel drive truck or what ever. Or, just sitting at the bottom of test hill and watching folks try to make it up to the top without getting stuck ! The view from the top of any of the many hills is great. Lake Michigan to the north as far as one can see, and Silver Lake to the south. And pine trees all the way around . You can drive right down to the lake , park your buggy, have apicnic or go for a swim. Then take a ride to dry off ! Down deep in the middle of the dunes is the dragstrip, where folks gather to see who is the fastest.

High atop the last hill

From left to right: My good friend Bud Amidon from Owosso,(now passed away) Myself & my wife Cathy. This is a view from the last hill before you leave the dunes. If you look off in the distance you can see the parking lot. Check out the great view to the east, pine trees as far as you can see! Our sandrail is a four seater with a 1835 cc engine, a set of CB performance supermag port and polished big valve heads and a set of 1.25 ratio rockers. Induction is done thru the dual throttle bodies on the CB performance ultra comptition fuel injection system.

Last hill

A shot looking south from the last hill at SilverLake. If you look carefully at the bottom of the hill ,those are humans prepareing to take off on foot across the dunes never to be seen or heard from again. It is believed that the wind moves the dunes into the lake at the rate of at least one foot per year eventually closing off the north end of the lake. The dunes have already claimed several cottages.

Last hill

A view from the top of TEST HILL ! Those vehicles you see at the bottom are preparing to climb TEST HILL. Some make it , some don't, some get stuck at the top. There is a fine art of knowing when to let off the gas as not to bury ones self to the frame, or not to go airborne and kill ones self (been done). I have sat up top and watched the SHOW for hours at a time, seeing things you wouldn't believe ! Click mouse here to go to page two! -or-click here to go to my sandrail/fiberglass tub homepage
