The Claimants

Ever since Billy the Kid was allegedly killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett on July 14, 1881, several men have come forward to claim that they were, in fact, the real Kid, who escaped Garrett's bullets. Although most of them were easily and immediately debunked and their names lost to history, there are two who, for one reason or another, remain topics of discussion and deserve to have their stories told. The first of these claimants is Brushy Bill Roberts, a name familiar to most Billy the Kid researchers, and the claimants who has easily received the bulk of press. The second claimant, however, one John Miller, has received comparatively little notoriety, both in life and posthumously. Presented below are links to each one's story. Was one of them really the famous outlaw, or were they both just delusional old men? Read each case and decided for yourself...
