This movie takes place about six or seven years after the fifth movie. It starts off when a Klingon moon explodes. The U.S.S. Excelsior is hit by the shockwave of the explosion. After reporting back to Starfleet, Spock begins negotiations with the Chancellor of the Klingon High Council to bring peace between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. Kirk is forced to take the now aging Enterprise-A to escort the Chancellor and his party to Earth. While enroute back to Earth, the Chancellor's ship is fired on and two Starfleet crewmembers assassinate the Chancellor. Kirk and McCoy are tried for murder by the Klingon Courts. Even after what happened the Chancellor's daughter, who was chosen to succeed her father, agrees with the Federation President to continue the peace talks. While in prison, Kirk and McCoy discover they were set up. Spock also discovers this while conducting a detailed investigation of his own on the Enterprise. After finding what he was looking for, Spock takes the Enterprise into Klingon Space against the current standing treaty. At the same time, Kirk and McCoy escape from their prison. After almost being captured and executed, the captain and doctor are rescued by Spock. Together, they discover that it was indeed a prototype Klingon Bird-of-Prey that fired on the Chancellor's ship. It could fire while cloaked. After getting info about the new peace talks location from Excelsior Captain Sulu, the Enterprise races to Camp Khitomer to save the talks. After battling the new Bird-of-Prey, the Enterprise and Excelsior join forces and destroy the menacing ship. Then Kirk and his officers beam down and saved the day. At the end, the Enterprise, NCC-1701-A, was to be decommissioned and the senior bridge crew retired. The last thing you see is the Enterprise fly off into the stars of the future.
